The Old Folks Home

While it has not been cold here, the past few night have been a lot cooler than it has been being. That inspired Dh into figuring out how to put up the Sweeter Heaters. I just threw a bit of cold water on his plans. Remember The Big Bang Theory? Sometimes, the interactions of Sheldon, and Leslie Winkle remind me of us. Back to the heater hanging....He had everything figured out to build a frame, thus avoiding using the chains to hang them, and keeping them perfectly stable. UNTIL, I mentioned that he still had to use the chains, so they would tilt.

Huh? Why in the world would you want them to be able to tilt? He's looking at me like I've lost my mind. "Um, at least one of those stupid chickens in each coop will try to roost on top of the heaters, and they need to tilt enough to prevent the chicken from staying on it, dumb ass." The look on his face was a Kodak moment. Yes, it was a Leslie Winkle type response.

Raining, snow on the top of some of our mountains surrounding our valley. This is a good thing. Sharing a photo that my daughter took from her front porch. Our mountains are so so colorful right now.

We got one for each hot air furnace 2 weeks ago. The one on the oil furnace on the south end of the house (original building) has been working well. That end isn't as well insulated as the mostly rebuilt north building with the propane furnace. Haven't had that one on yet since the kitchen is in that part and adds some heat to the rooms.

The smart thermostat is a bit annoying. It shows the time until you get in front of it then the time display disappears! I have no idea why it works that way.
Here in CA we don't use oil furnaces much. Since we normally do not go below 27F in the winter, -5F mini splits work at nearly 100% efficiency.

A couple of weeks ago pge notified us that natural gas was going to be even higher this year. People had six hundred plus monthly bills last winter while keeping the house below 65F.

Electric rates will go up too but they do not go up as much as natural gas will.

I have a different question. You live in Central Florida. Why are you putting in heaters AT ALL?????? Do you have chicks hatching?

I live in Vermont, it occasionally gets down to -20°F, below 0°F with frequency and there is no heat in the barn. For chicks I use the Mama Heating Pad cave until the chicks are about a month old. Of course not in the winter, chicks have always been May or June.

@ronott1 get some solar panels then your electric cost won't go up. Except for all the various taxes and fees they keep coming up with and increasing of course.

Yes!

Solar with a battery backup.
