The Old Folks Home

Good Morning Old Folk my computer did not have internet for 2 days.
I do email on the phone.
We made a feeder bought plans it holds 4 60lb bags. 20181002_140703.jpg 20181002_140729.jpg 20181002_140736.jpg 20221125_133208.jpg

How long will the feed last? I haven’t wanted to get a bigger feeder because I’m worried about it getting damp. Good work you guys! Let us know how it goes!
I use a trashcan feeder. It holds 3 bags of feed. Since the feed is eaten through pipe ports... you could cap them every night if you had rodent issues.

In the summer I keep it in the run, in the winter inside my coop.

It does at time, when outside, get a little damp in the bottom, especially if rain or snow blows into the ports.

It stays dry in the coop.

Every so often I let them eat it empty or close to empty, so I can make sure the bottom is staying clean.

I like the concept for 20 or fewer birds but when there is a layer coop of 50 or more???

Yes!

Rain is limited to winter-- November to March usually. Most of the rain comes Nov-Feb.

Hopefully the Snow pack in the Sierras will be good again this year too.

Same here up on the north coast! So far it's starting out to be a good, wet one here in Humboldt. Grass is growing like mad after the long dry summer, the neighbors' steers are gobbling it up and growing fat & shiny. Creeks are running nicely, tree frogs singing, dandelions springing up everywhere (love them, and so do the chooks!), autumn colors in the woods, lots of wild mushrooms sprouting - I love this season, except for the waning daylight hours to get things done outside. Rainy days let me cozy up with a book and the dogs, guilt-free!
