The Old Folks Home

He made a brief but very welcome appearance in the early afternoon! 🌞 ❤️Long time, no see...

Bright overcast today mostly with just a few sprinkles now & then, barely dampened my sweatshirt. The Big Bad Atmospheric River predicted for yesterday turned out to be more a size medium, 2.94" versus the 5.13" deluge we had Jan. 12-14 that caused a lot of flooding & road closures.

I spent the afternoon mucking out the coop and covered run (SOOO much poop when they stay under cover day & night), spreading a fresh layer of wood chips in the run and around the chicken yard to cover the muddy churned-up old chips & dirt (thanks to my dedicated little excavators making all their craters). They eagerly set to work spreading each bucket of new chips all over the yard, delighting in the worms and other squirmy goodies that came in from the big chip pile and the pleasure of being out under a rainless sky all afternoon.

There was much happy conversation as they worked; I chimed in as best I could though I'm sure my chicken-accent is atrocious. They charitably respond anyway; we had a clucking good time, the 8 fluffy butts turned up to the sky all around me (and getting in my way, but fine, I love hanging up close with the girls) while I did my hands-and-knees work in their bustling midst.

So a very good day all around, and 6 eggs, as well.:thumbsup
I plan on mucking out the coop and run tomorrow.

I am getting more eggs too. I did not have to buy any eggs this year.

Usually late April here, but I can start "doing stuff" before that.

Waiting for the sun right now. Sometime today, and some for the weekend, then possibilities the first half of next week.

:fl:fl:fl I am not a mushroom, dang it!
We can start planting things in late February here.

Here, three! 41F it was cloudy and dreary this morning but now
