The Old Folks Home

Construction on my little RV park. Had to go in the yard and have a bit of chicken therapy. These guys make me crazy. I don't dare take my eyes off of them. They think they are getting paid to stand and smoke. Lock down on the mini brinsea today. Lockdown on octagon brinsea and packed foamabator in two days.

CC-- it is a balncing act that doesn't always balance out . . . hope he had life insurnce.

It is College that weighs on my mind-- I know most of you are on the otherside of that --- WGBH is doing a series on paying for college. $230-$300,000 buys a house. College is moving out of reach for more and more worthy students . . . .We have been looking at the vo-tech school instead of regular public high school so my kids can have a job to pay for college, but when I talked to one of the students (who works for his parents or his grandfather now) he could not get a job in his field because he needs to intern for many years with a skilled electrician. Not many of those jobs around-- the teacher at school hired the son of a friend . . . .

I'm praying that our land can furnish more money and more food for us . . .
Arielle, I highly recommend looking into local community colleges for at least the associates degree. A general associates will feed into pretty much any bachelor's program since it is mainly all core courses. Doing the classes at an in-state community college is also less expensive and if you find a decent school it really doesn't matter where they get the core classes.

oz, saw those videos on the news..posted the second on fb. That one guy looked so scared, and under they went to their really really safe place in case it ended up being a 7 or higher. I guess it would be scary. Did you feel it?
i barely felt it- it woke me so i dont know how long the ground was doing the hula before i realized

Okay I am jumping ahead so maybe this has already been addressed, I am pages and pages behind. When I open my profile, and go down to my activity, all the threads I subscribe to or have posted on, appear. If I mouse over the thread, even if I only posted in it it shows me as subscribed and a little red X shows that I can click on to delete my subscription, and it goes away from my list. ChickenCanoe, have you tried that already and it didn't work?

So busy lately. Bob had his first cataract surgery, it went perfectly, he cannot wait to get the other eye done; his eye Dr. is cautioning him to avoid dust as much as possible, so he has really limited his visits to the chickens - understandably - and the wind has been blowing about every other day here - strongly. This afternoon we are having gusts in the 40s and much airborne dust.

Had a pretty decent hatch over the weekend, 24 of 33 eggs that went into the hatcher, and I put 4 of those in pretty much knowing at the time they would not hatch, which they did not.

Hope all are well.

Oz - oooh, ahhhh

ChickenCanoe - what a great trip your daughter is having

DiDi - that is a gorgeous mare, wowee!

That's about as far as I got :)

Quote: Good point.

THe local HS is working with a community college for the students to start taking classes while still in HS. Many students are not transitioning well into college life and are taking much longer than 4 years-- seems this is an advantage to the schools as they get more money for tuition, etc. I did find one resource that listed the graduation rate by 6 years--75-98%.

Figure if the kids can commute then that is half the cost right there. FOrtuneately many colleges are within commuting. A friend had suggested buying a house and the kids all live it together . . . .

I lost count of the number of stray cats I took in. Far more than the first 25. I stopped taking in cats when I realized I was only a bandaid and several local cat shelters opened up. I placed a few, especially kittens, and one adult kitty as the person needed someone special and I knew this kitty was it. I let her go knowing they were meant for each other.

I have two left-- a brother and his sister.

I have a dog story, too.

The story of "Goofy."

Goofy was the best dog in the world, only she didn't know it.

Why don't we write a collaborative book.

When I look back at my life, all I can think is, "you can't make this stuff up".

College daunting here too. I'll share sometime.

I have lots of Goofy stories, but I'll save them for another time. She lived with me until she died. I still miss her, she was the best dog her previous owners could have ever had. I was the lucky one.
Good story about a good dog and a rookie!

I love the dog stories you guys!

Canuck, I ignored the warnings and definitely cried at work! At least it was on my lunch break :) what a sweet dog and a great story! I love that y'all rescue dogs.

Wisher, it seems that Goofy was very lucky to find you! What a great way to train her! I'll have to remember that with my next puppy. My last lab was soooooo hyper!
