The Old Folks Home

We're going below freezing tonight here for the 2nd night. Had to remember to cover the herbs in clay pots, moved them under the eaves of the house. Best I can do. Really welcoming the fresh cold air but man that north blustery breeze is something else, send chills through my body and I had on three layers today - crazy!!

It was down to 12 here this morning. Colder than usual for us here also. This week is supposed to be below normal but looking ahead today I saw temps around 50. I'm thrilled! The chickens will be even more happy as they have been locked up for the past 4 days. Woke up yesterday morning to a light coat of snow. Don't even think it made it to an inch worth but it was kind of pretty.

I watched several weather guessers predict what the next three months would look like here and they summed it up in two words. Snow and Cold.

Oh well, it's winter in the mid west. :idunno

Cold, snow, and wind today. Worse west of here, but some of the lake effect snow could come this far inland. An inch of snow with wind is enough to be a big problem.

Hope to go get another bag of feed and fill up the gas can before it gets bad out there.

Tell me about it. He started eating on his own two nights ago and last night I was able to get the large scab off of his neck/head, and this morning the smaller scabs have fallen off with only 3 remaining. The swelling on his right eye is going down also and he is crowing his little brains out today.

Also, the rest of the flock is clean after over 2 weeks of treating Joker so I don't know what is going on. The original scab could have been a peck injury, but the following raised pimple like areas and scabs around his comb, on his comb and around his eyes matched fowl pox to the letter.

Right now I just am tickled to death that he is doing better, thanks for the well wishes, Ron.
That is good news! Chickens can often recover well from injuries and illness.
