The Old Folks Home

I feel like 10, my current number of hens, is as many as my space will support. I don't want to put more birds in and start problems because there isn't enough space. The current set up works, and the squabbles are minimal/non existent.

But, oh.... the chicks at TSC... And my birds are getting older and not laying as much... And Widget will go broody sometime soon...

Then build it bigger. :) Add 4 new pullets every other year.

We are averaging a dozen a day now from 15 standard sized pullets and 6 old hens. No complaints as all are healthy and we weren't getting but 4-6 a day until last week and then it slowly started climbing up. I think it will level out at 14-15 eggs a day with feeds or families. I will add 6 new pullets in August or September.

We have added onto the coop twice. Can't really do anything else to it. Hubby said when we made the second addition, "I wish I'd taken pictures of it before we messed up my design by adding on the first time."

Ten birds really is enough.
