The Old Folks Home

definitely unpasteurized vinegar. I will defer to others as far as ratios. I have never measured. I just put a bit in there. I have been out scooping the coop. Its a crappy job that my biddies are very vocal in their unappreciation!!

Ron your source seems to agree with what my doctor told me. I asked about the shingles vaccine when I went in for my physical. I know my dad had them and was in extreme pain. I don't want to go through that and since I had the chicken pox as a teen, I figured I would ask. I have a few years before getting the vaccine. Hopefully it will be less expensive by then. Not sure if all insurances cover the vaccine and it is very expensive.
Hi!
Like I mentioned in another post, I had my first bought with shingles when I was 54. My insurance covered my vaccine shot.

Quote: DH is only 52. I expect our insurance will cover it-- Maybe he will get the flu shot too that I have hounded him about since . . SEPTEMBER!!

OUr snow is still melting-- SLOWLY, most areas are bare again, YEAH!!!! DUcks are playing in the runnoff and the chickens are scratching in the leaves!! Playtime!
i could not live where it snows like that. I was in an idustrial accident and have metal rods, screws, plates, and a bone growth stimulator with a dead battery in both legs. This weather has me up and moving good. Prepping veggie garden between beers. My brahmas and family are chillin outside. Feel highly blessed

I have a daughter who said she will only eat store bought eggs, then she asked me why some of my eggs were green.

Hopefully you will have better luck with your gardening this year.

We have dairy farms all around us here and we still pay higher prices on milk and cheese.

It's crazy how it's right in your own backyard, but prices are high. Rents are cheaper out here, but they sure make up for it with food and utilities. A roof over the head is my main concern, so I hope I get something out of the garden this year. I went out to turn one of the raised beds yesterday. Got it cleared, not turned and then all the green, whatever it is growing around it. That stuff is all over my backyard. It's taken me over 2 years to turn all but a 20x20 spot to finally landscape and not I have this junk. Really makes me wish I still have Guineas. Pretty sure this stuff is burdock. Man I hate that stuf.

Big debate over flu shots-- I couldn't have one for years as I was allergic to a component used in the concoction. I bet you stay at home much of the time and you're not in crowds, so you are at low risk for exposure. FLu season is almost over.

Hi priviett1961 --1961 was a good year.

Real allegic to them too. My last baby is a senior in high school this year. He also has had allergic reactions, so I worry about him and the flu. Not shots here.

My hatch that was due yesterday started on Thursday. I got 2. I candled and some are still going, lots of veins, but I did see a couple that I think quit. Wasn't sure about them when I went to lockdown. So we'll see if I get a few more. Right now I have an OE and an FBCM out. Noisy little things. Since I had such bad hatches, I didn't expect anything and have to search my over crowed garage to find my lights. I can't believe I didn't search for them before. Feed store finally got starter in yesterday, so I just grabbed 5 pounds for now. I figure if I only get the 2 I have a few days feed before I have them eating like horses. Pretty sure my FBCM is a cockerel. He stands real high and very vocal. I need to grow a few out this year anyway. My flock is getting old. If the OE is a roo, I'll either take him to the auction or name him Lunch.

Do you ever give do this for hatched eggs? I was thinking it was like Gatorade for chickens but better with Agave Nector. Would honey work as well? I am putting together a cheat sheet for DH.
Honey does work and I've used it when I don't have A N. However it doesn't dissolve as easily and the water needs to be hotter to get it to dissolve. The A N is just easier and more healthful than sugar.
I have used it for hatched chicks but I don't think it is as necessary because we're getting food and water in them a couple days sooner.

Does the acv need to be the unfiltered type or will the regular clearish red colored work?

The regular distilled pasteurized works as an acidifier or cleaner but has no further health benefits.
I don know it is to be with mother. Braggs is the most popular one but I have seen Heinz sells it with mother as well. You really need to look at the label when buying.
Any raw apple cider vinegar will work. Braggs is organic. If anyone has an apple orchard nearby, they usually have raw (non-organic) gallon jugs.

I actually enjoy mucking out the coop. I use a dustmask always. I get more stuff for the compost bin and the finished job with all the fresh bedding is SOOO rewarding.
I'm also happy I don't need to worry about ammonia.

It is 72 and Gorgeous here!

We should be doing this!
It was pushing 80 yesterday. Only in the 40s today, 25 tonight. Closer to 20 the next 3 nights and perhaps lower. I think by Wednesday, I may be able to start my auto water system.
After my chicken class, my wife and I had lunch at a new Spanish restaurant. One of the few Spanish restaurants we've ever had in St. L. Hundreds of Mexican but no Spanish. Then I just watched St. Louis University get knocked out of the Sweet 16 by Louisville. Now I'm going to care for chickens and do some gardening. That's going to be putting row cover over what I've already planted and planting seeds in flats in my homemade cellar greenhouse thingy.
