Like many here, I have been enjoying reading your post about your DD's trip. The pictures and stories have been amazing...Thank you for sharing.
Wisher, that sounds like soooooo much fun, and pass the s'mores. There is nothing quite as good as food cooked over a wood fire, in my opinion. If you are going during the day, but coming back home at night, consider taking extra meat to cook at night, then take it home to freeze for later use. I used to do that with pork chops, and hamburger. Cook it about 3/4 of the way done, so it' won't be too dry or overcooked when you re-heat it. You can take some of the hamburger patties, chop them up, and use them in spaghetti sauce too, and the campfire flavor comes through.
I think my favorite part is that you have to go/walk to the top of the hill (half a mile) to get any bars on your phone!! Close enough that you can call for help if you need it, far enough away that nobody wants to bother.
Oh, Heavens, Wisher! You realize that if you'd been out there with 7 teenage girls instead of guys, you'd have had to camp on top of that hill or deal with withdrawal symptoms.I think my favorite part is that you have to go/walk to the top of the hill (half a mile) to get any bars on your phone!! Amen.God speed on your recovery, Cheryl! May your days be long and filled with joy.
Thanks for the comment. Even though I knew I created a couple of amazing travel monsters, I'm still dumbfounded when I think about what she's doing right now - and she's doing a good job at it.Like many here, I have been enjoying reading your post about your DD's trip. My kids are in their 40s and the best and most told stories are about our many camping trips. On the first trip it rained all weekend. The kids left the tent window unzipped and it filled with water. I thought that was the end of camping but everyone could not wait to go back and talked about how much fun it was. There is something about camping.
Sounds like the Missouri Ozarks.I think my favorite part is that you have to go/walk to the top of the hill (half a mile) to get any bars on your phone!! Close enough that you can call for help if you need it, far enough away that nobody wants to bother.
WAAAAY before cell phones. That's true. Most of our camping was before cell phones so camping was getting away from phones. Now rhere is almost no escaping them.
My wife's sister has 6 girls - all one year apart in age. No boys.Oh, Heavens, Wisher! You realize that if you'd been out there with 7 teenage girls instead of guys, you'd have had to camp on top of that hill or deal with withdrawal symptoms.![]()
I went to the thread and contributed my 2 cents.Nope, no way, no how..... unt uh! I have a hard enough time with the occasional visiting girlfriend, there's no way I'm taking a bunch of girls camping.![]()
ETA: Now that you mention it, there was no drama, no arguements, no pouting, and no whining the whole time we were out there, either.
It's certain, God knew what he was doing when he ignored my prayers for a girl and gave me three boys!
Please, all you wise old chicken keepers, check out this mystery and see if you can explain it: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/868366/chick-developing-in-freshly-laid-egg
It is our right to change our minds. Thanks for the comment. Even though I knew I created a couple of amazing travel monsters, I'm still dumbfounded when I think about what she's doing right now - and she's doing a good job at it.
In the last year she had contemplated, no, more than contemplated - made concrete plans and arrangements to work in the Virgin Islands for the winter and then off to Africa.
Last year she decided she was going to ride camels in the Sahara, so a trip to Morocco and other points in North Africa were planned. In the end she changed her mind and chose SE Asia. I imagine it was my son's trip to Thailand and Cambodia that may have swayed her.
Isn't that just like a woman to change their mind?
