Cynthia, he is a mini Aussie. Yeah, the training.... It has been years since we had a puppy. My oldest Sheltie is going to be 12 next year and he is having some heart problems. Took him to the vet the other day. They gave me some meds to help but nothing can cure him. The meds do seem to be helping him but I know we will probably be lucky if he makes it through another year. I will miss him terribly when he is gone. For now though, he is still happy and comfortable.

Oh man, I thought possibly an Aussie! Serious I did. They are so pretty. No wonder the different coloring..not solid. You will love your baby sooo fast, it just happens doesn't it? Sorry to hear about your older dog. I know how it is. Glad that he is able to be kept comfortable.

Needed the morning giggle. I'm usually pretty crabby until I've finished my coffee. Hubby will be happy he doesn't have to sneak around me when he gets home.

Dsqard, I hope the meds continue to help your aging pup. Our old cat was diagnosed with heart issues about two years ago and daily meds are helping to give him a prolonged, quality life. May we both have several more happy years with our beloved fuzzies.

All this talk of puppies. Stop! We're itching to add one this next year but the breeders have been so slow to respond to inquiries. Trying so hard to be patient ...

I understand that each case will be different but it is good to know that I may still have a lot of time left with Skip.
What breed are you looking for? I was lucky to find a breeder only about an hour away for the mini-Aussies. I was really impressed with their "operations" too. Definitely not "puppy mill" people. She had two litters in a family room area and walking into it, you never would have known that there were about 10 puppies in the room. The room was immaculate and absolutely no smell. She took all the puppies out to play for me to interact with them. It was obvious that they got handled and loved on a daily basis. She let me meet the parents and it was obvious that they were not just breeding stock but part of the family. So nice to meet great breeders.

We're looking for a bernese mountain dog. We're too poor for horses, so a draft dog will be great.

Seriously though, I'm looking forward to carting and having some help with chores. I wrote to several breeder referral services and finally heard back from one late last night. Turns out there's a breeder right here in the same city as I am, and I like what I see so far on her site. Open book as far as all of her health testing and all of the dogs are titled in everything I could ever hope to see.

I swear, I'm about to pop. I just ordered my chicks for the spring from Meyer. First time I'll have had chickens since childhood. All these dreams coming true!

Speaking of mini-aussies, our neighbor used to breed them. I'd never heard of them before, but they're a really cute dog. High energy?

Bitterroot so glad to hear that you found a good breeder right near you! That is awesome! I don't think the Aussies are as bad as a Border Collie when it comes to high energy but they are working dogs. I had a standard sized when I was little (many, many, many years ago

) and she was a great dog. I am hoping to train him to stay by me on our acreage so he can work off any energy he needs to. We do have a large fenced back yard for the dogs as well so he can run around with the other three (well the oldest one probably won't run much) too.
