The Old Folks Home

Okay, I got no takers on the offer of splitting a room at the Ohio Nationals Poultry Show in Columbus, Ohio. I see that I will have to tease you a little.

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the American Bantam Association and this is expected to be the biggest show in YEARS! It will not surprise me if there are 10,000 birds entered this year. I went last year and there were about 8,000 birds entered and three isles full of sale/trade coops as well. This year, they will be occupying two buildings instead of one. There will be a huge variety of bantams, hundreds of breeds of large fowl, turkeys, geese, pigeons, guineas, ducks, you name it. It is Friday, Saturday and Sunday morning, November 7,8,and 9. Anyone interested?

Wisher you are killing me!!!!

All my extra money is buying a puppy. To guard the chickens.

I can only imagine what going to Ohio is like; the North East show was truely amazing, yet not nearly as big a show. DId get to meet Walt, and his partner in poultry.

You are killing me!!

Thank you. Or shall I say shook-ran. I cannot read arabic but I can say niceties and talk about the weather (although only if it's raining).

I had been wondering what it meant a while. I was able to google (swt) but unable to google the arabic.
how strange, I can Google Arabic phrases. You can also use Google translate. Or the translate app.

Lol, I can't talk about the weather, even if it is raining, lol.
I know my prayers in Arabic though.
And how to say "I'm sorry, I can't speak Arabic" in Arabic!

The proper response to shook-ran is af-wan. And rainy weather is taqs-moumtir.

And growing up with a Lithuanian family, I can tell you off in Lithuanian (although I won't) and some words that I thought were English are certainly not. My family used the Lithuanian word when there wasn't a good English translation.

I think we all know a few real life vampyres. I have tried to cut most of them out of my life; I have to work with a few so that's what's left in my life of that sort. I'd rather be friendless than have friends with constant, unrelenting drama or that just want to use me to suit their needs.

Most people that I "like" I haven't met in real life. Make of that what you want. Some of them that I met virtually I've met in real life (cough... Dsqard) and we continued to like each other so maybe I'm not the huge monster I think I am.

despite the obvious dangers of rushing into meeting people online and not vetting them adequately, you probably have a better chance of actually liking the people you make an effort to meet because you have common interests rather than just common geography.

Like someone said before, get a row cover to prevent bugs. You don't have to worry about keeping bugs out because there's nothing to be pollinated for greens. I plant pole beans and sweet peas in our cool weather up here. Like someone else said you could do a late crop of cukes or summer squash.

I think I could easily be a migrant field worker. There's something satisfying about picking your own food, even though it's hard work. But the reward to me is just worth it. If you're willing to put me up in Finland, I'll be there!

I've got my first batch of blue-ribbon winning blueberry spice jam cooking slowly on the stove right now.

Next season is apple season, and I pick bushels then, too. I bring along BF because he's a giant and can reach lots of unpicked apples that others can't get to. The bushels fill up much quicker when he's there!

I have a recipe for peach amaretto jam that I have been wanting to try for years and years, but there's just not good peaches here.
Ok, Sweetie, I think I'm really needing a recipe for this. Sounds too good. Beautiful pic by the way.

It might be cool to have the grave pre-dug, and get a headstone that reads "Gone fishin' - Be back tomorrow". "It rained last night, so I went home to clean up, and change clothes". "Went home to get more snacks". "Got chilly, because they forgot to cover me - Went to get my blanket". I would have to set a game cam up nearby to see people's reactions.

Bahahahaha Priceless. There would be some rubber necking for sure.
