The Old Folks Home

http://happyplace.someecards.com/ba...ter-his-babys-projectile-poop-ruins-the-shot/ well I did find this while gazing vacantly into the distance. Some things are just funnier in the middle of the night!

Something to be said about keeping picture for posterity.

thunder clouds are mocking us as they form before the head off to Arizona and Nevada.... Thumbing their noses at us as they disappear over the horizon.

This kind of heat causes you to get goosebumps when you step outside...

I can handle the heat.... but our city has reached the flash point.

Thanks to all for the advice about momma and the six (yeah she had a couple more that I didn't see) poults. So far she is doing a better job than the other hen who hatched eggs earlier this year. That hen lost all three of her babies one by one. Not sure how it happened. That is why I am a bit worried about leaving them with momma but this one seems to be doing better. She is much better at hiding them. I put out food and water where they can all access it. Hopefully momma brings the babies over to the food and water.

You need to wait until frost and they get really soft and falling from the trees. At least for the native persimmons. If unripe persimmons is only the second worst thing you have ever eaten please tell me what was the worst. I don't want to ever try it. My wife loves eating them once they are really ripe. You could use them as possum bait and them have possum and sweet potatoes.
the worst thing ive ever tasted was at golden corral. The grill station that usually cooks the sirloin steak had liver. It looked like steak. I asked for a peice that was rare. He looked at me funny but whatever(i thought). I took a big ole bite.....and puked right there onto my plate

SCG...here are some apple tree photos..not sure of what kind they are.

Those are some lovely, healthy looking trees. You should be proud. They look delicious.

SCG and Ron, CC here are some pics of the worst ones and y'all are probably right it is likely pox.

these two are the same bird the two sides of his comb.

Not sure if you can tell but the grey hen behind this rooster (her comb is grey and funny looking)
So what do y'all think?

The first one looks kinda poxy (any other symptoms) or looks like he might have gotten into a scuffle with another chicken or the fence. I'd just put some triple antibiotic ointment on it and call it a day. The second one looks more overall discolored. I have had a few birds that are sick with bad circulation that get that. Some die, some don't. I haven't found a pattern to it at all but all my birds that get sick and wither and die get that look on their comb right before the end. And others have sported that look for years and are full of life.
Keep us posted.

Here's the last episode in Vacationing on the Maine Coast for y'all (Marshall Point Light):

First eggs!

One of the younger birds (New Hampshire, born ~May 27th), in the adjacent pen, was doing the egg song the past couple of days, but still too young to lay, so thought nothing of it. So just a bit ago she started again, so I decided I better check in the nest boxes where the 2 older girls (Delawares from @maggiemo born late March?) are and son of a gun, there they were! I have my first 2 eggs :) They're a little smaller than a store bought large, but I guess that's normal and they'll get bigger over time.
