The Old Folks Home

I made such a delicious sandwich the other day. Grilled cheese on wholegrain wheat with emmental, beef, fried egg, fried onion, red pepper and tomatoes. Mmmmmm.
a neat trick for grilled chese sandwiches: spread mayo on the outside of both slices of bread. Then grill. I know it sounds awful but it makes for a nice crispy, toasty crust

It's just not the same, is it? Always better when someone else does it for you. Of course, if no one else offers, it beats starving.

Have you tried them in the microwave? I use a glass bowl and scramble one large egg with whatever strikes my fancy, green peppers, mushrooms, cheese, onions, tomatoes, jalapenos, pepperoni, or just plain. Microwave at high for a minute and turn out on a piece of bread with lots of mayo. Salt and pepper to taste. A bit of Pam in the bowl makes the bowl much easier to clean. Try it! Easy peasy and really good.

I bet bama has other uses for mayo too...

But I might need to try this mayo thing though. And if anyone else is going to try it, remember that there is no such thing as light mayonnaise. If it isn't 80% oil, it isn't mayo. The light surrogate stuff will just burn.

chickadoodles, they keep coming up with surprises. We have two broodies right now, down to 3 eggs per day. I really need that Sussex pullet to get her big girl pants on and start laying.
I hear ya. I am still waiting on my Chanties to start laying and they are 7 months old now.

Our Sussex is only 23 weeks, but I'm impatient

This broody business isn't helping either, before the two pullets got broody, she was checking out the nests all the time. Now with the two girls hissing in the nests, she's afraid to go in there. The other girls have the guts to climb on top of them to lay, but not Emma. (I saw 4 chickens in 2 nests the other day). Although probably that won't affect when she's actually mature enough to lay.
