Arabians tend to be rough; you can walk, or you can lope, or you can have your spine jammed through the top of your skull.

A lot of QHs carry the genetics for being gaited. My Lady Bird would single foot, rack out, and pace.

A lot of Morgans also carry the gaiting genetics. Depending on whether they carry one or both of the genes, they can do a heck of a lot more than pace.

A number of the best endurance horses have been traditional, old-style Morgans. A good Morgan can outdo most Arabians in the endurance field. Nothing can outperform a mule in endurance riding.

I would have so loved having the chance of riding a Morgan! I've only heard good things about their gate. Have also heard that they are great with endurance, and yes, nothing like a mule..haven't been on one of those either. Those mules are pretty sure footed too from what I hear. Had a friend that couldn't stop talking about his mules and all that they could do, including..out smart you.

I miss my Mustang mare Desert Rose. She was gaited though I never figured out exactly what lateral gait it was. It was 4 beat so it wasn't a pace but it was like I had extensions on my legs and was walking with really big steps. You let you legs swing like you are walking just behind her shoulders as the went forward and back. One day we had some dogs rush us on the road. She hates dogs. She took me up an embankment that I would have had to grab the sapling trees to pull myself up if I was walking. One of the dogs had been up on the embankment and there was NO WAY she was going to let him keep the high ground on her. I just gave her the rein and flattened myself to her neck.
