The Old Folks Home

hennible, seems like an ok idea, but the plastic is quite bendy so it would need to be secured in the middle so it doesn't pop out.

True, I worked with it lots in a sign shop....
Not my favourite stuff, guess you'd need a more substantial frame...
Think I will use lumber wrap myself seeing as I have a thousand or so feet of it( I'm only covering the bottom 4' of a 8' tall run) When you figure it out, tell us how you did it.

Dang!

Those Minks are terrible!

I hope you can get more of them and that they stop killing your chickens!

Just heard we have a mink on the loose here in our neighborhood..got an e-mail from a friend. There has been a trap set by the city .. and probably by someone that saw it near their place, anyway..the headline of my e-mail reads..Lock up your chickens! Yes, our neighborhood has a lot of chickens. Right in the city here.
I know how they can be, even if I closed the gate, that mink could easily get in there. Mine are mostly safe from hawks when I see them around. Cats can get in too. The only safe thing at night would be to close them in the coop. Too warm here yet for that. Sooo...hoping they caught that mink last night. :/

Animal rights activists used to attack fur farms here and set minks free, into their "natural habitat". Luckily they've gained some sense since those days. Minks are devastating to an ecosystem. They kill for sport.

I use sea freight all the time actually. It takes 9 weeks door to door. A little longer than I can afford to take for myself.

"Just Saying" taking a jab at me for flying is a little personal. I am cognizant of the fossil fuel required to lift my lard *** off the ground and an thankful that the airline has switched to more fuel efficient aircraft.

The 9 weeks of consuming food and no productivity on a freighter is also a bit of an issue. If it was more efficient, millions of Canadian, European and Australasian twenty somethings would be on ships instead of planes as they travel the globe learning what poor urban planning looks like. They would gladly spend a few weeks at sea to save 50 bucks.

In the USA I live 0.4 miles from work. I fill my car every three weeks and try to plan a list of things to do all along the same route.

In the Philippines I have a car that's run by a 2 liter turbo diesel. I haul a trailer if I need more capacity.

All our lights are LED in both countries. We have 16 watts (4x4watts) burning overnight as security lights in the Philippines.

We run a 1/2 HP AC in our bedroom from 6pm to 4am. Its thermostat is set at 78F. I don't consider myself a "green" person. I don't do "the natural" bologne. I love the concept of GMO. I love efficiency. I abhorr waste.

Oh and additionally, my immigrant self, immigrant wife and soon to be immigrant kids don't fit in your ideology of how America should position itself, but the tax dollars I generate in offshore income is appreciated by your government. My immigrant babies will have an excellent life with all the rights and liberties afforded by any American (save being president). And they will be cared for by an immigrant nanny.

One more.... Child restrictions in China did not see dead kids hanging from trees but millions of female babies did die of sudden infant death syndrome until the parents were blessed with a boy.

In thirty years China will be importing care givers to look after its aging population. It's already importing wives for the sons.

The last time I considered taking a train it was no cheaper than Air Travel. I hate airports. I would love a viable alternative.

Even if it is their "natural habitat," too many of any animal can wreak havoc. We have an island near us that has a chronic deer problem. It's made even worse because some folks that don't even live there can't bear the thought of "Bambi" and his mother being killed; the most common cause of death for a deer is collision with a motor vehicle. The last thing I heard on the subject was that they were experimenting with birth control for the does . . . .

.... I have a pet ferret thus a big soft spot for all the weasel family.... Including the wolverine that was here briefly. When I split wood today I'm hope the dogs will find her ( very small so likely female )
I can't get feeder mice locally any way (2 /12 hour drive one way) so if the dogs don't get her I think a snare if my only option.... Arg... I'd rather move the birds inside than kill that **** thing.... But that's not a real option.
Wish me luck, and the strength to kill the stupid thing. Thanks for the advice, its appreciated.
I understand when you've had one but you may think differently when you walk in on the mayhem as it's happening. They go from bird to bird in the dark biting the neck. The chickens don't have a chance and then you see it making a kill while the rest are writhing on the floor and can't be saved.

I hope so too. It takes a very experienced trapper to get the suckers. They've escaped my box traps. I only use kill body traps now.

What makes mink and weasels even more dangerous is that they also hunt in the middle of the day, so if the coop is open or the birds are out, they're vulnerable. I haven't had them take an adult bird during the day yet but they've taken 10 baby chicks in the middle of the afternoon and on towards dark. And the mother can't protect them against such a vicious killer.

Nice carrots.
I read that in many parts of Europe there are populations of both wild mink and farmed mink that dummies sprung from their cages.

If you go on the Amtrak website and find a route, add a date there are often deals. Especially if the train still has a lot of seats.

I used to travel from St. Louis to KC for work every week. I started driving but that got real old. I flew a few times but realized I could park free in Kirkwood and Lees Summit (suburbs of both cities with stops there) I could sleep all the way and the most I ever paid for a ticket was $72 but if I checked often I could usually get it for 25-30. I've even gotten one for $6. By the time you deal with airports it was almost as fast with no hassle. And, with only one airline flying that route, the plane ticket was always at least $250 but often higher.

If you have to change trains it can get more pricey.

sounds like paradise. Has anyone there tasted how delicious venison is. I could round up a posse and delightfully pack freezers

Count me in on that trip!! Most if my hunting now is done through my kitchen window. It's not sporting but I always have deer in the freezer.
