yep......that is the problem with slaughter in the winter....do you do it outside, fast enough so that your fingers don't freeze solid?  Or.....do you bring it in the house?????? 

Out side freezing...DH doesn't even want the FF in the house much less me processing a duck...
I never wear gloves Vehve, make me clumsy, but I think I will be warming my hands over the pot.... After dusk so the other birds don't catch on and the wee ones are in bed... Crap it's going to be cold.
DH says we will use the carport, good show! at least I'll have light, and some cover from the wind...

Alaskan, that's a good way for the kids to learn where food comes from. At our house, it's Karin who does the processing. I just do the initial deed.

we also have a wall of little squirrel pelts.......


some people find it a bit odd when they come in and see our house... super messy, lots of guns, lots of bows, lots of fishing rods, and then squirrel pelts....no bear or moose, or deer.....

how wee are your weee ones?  I got out of butchering......  the kids now do it for me.    I think they started at age 8......

Oldest is nearly 3 other guy closing in on 1 they will be my wee butchers I want them to grow up doing it... Home schooled and connected to their food etc....

OK, OK, 3 is way too young to do the butchering for you. 

But yep, my kids are homeschooled too..... and they have done the entire cycle, incubating, raising, caring, butchering, cooking, then eating.

However, my oldest is now 16, and the youngest is 6....so I have more helpful helpers than you...that is IF I can herd them in the correct direction..always a problem. 

Yes herding kids is challenging at any age.... Perhaps I can train the dog.
