The Old Folks Home

Linda-- ROTFL shirtless? in 20 degree weather???? Glad you have your heat back-20 is a bit colder than I like. 24 now feels like a heat wave.

SCG-- DH took a class a couple years ago and I just read a book on bee keeping written in the 1970's so the basics are good some of the info is outdated. I would like to price out the set up and estimate the time to recoup the costs. Maple syrup is becoming a thing of the past with the odd winters. I'm praying for a good maple syrup season this year.

I'll know in another month.

Quote: It is kind of like doing the heal on the break and the foot on the accelerator. I can't quite do that one yet--I am still recovering from a crushed Sciatic nerve so my foot does not have full range of movement.

When you are stopped on a hill, pull up the parking break. When it is time to go forward, engage the clutch and release the parking break. That way you do not go back wards before the clutch catches. I had to do that yesterday because of the car behind me hugging my bumper....

OMG!! I'm having flash backs to the intense driving lessons from my brother!! He always made me stop on the hill on the way home. Sheer torture!! Constantly stalling out. DId eventually learn though. I love shifting-- a momentary thrill of power!

Sorry for causing PTSD Symptoms!

It was more than a mile up hill, the kind of hill that comes up out of the bay around here.

Speaking of kids. Talking to one of the older neighbors today, The funniest part of the conversation was when his wife left and he looked over at me and plead. "Please kill me now before I am dead!!!!!!!"..

The wife still loves to see them, I guess as that is the only time she sees the Grand babies.

I guess his kids are real dead beats, (Told him, he should not have spared the rod) and the only time they come around is when they want money. Poor Guy, I am thinking of putting him out of his misery.
A shame lots of young adults had really bad, or liberal parents that never told them no....

ok, my old age and upbringing is coming out again.
Enjoy this wonderful afternoon.
MMM, is everyone at work, (problem with being young), still sleeping, (ya lazy boobs) or out playing in the yards. (doing chores and stuff)
There is no wrong answer, just unanswered questions....
I don't know if I am a liberal or not but I don't spank my kids. I figure if I can control a rottie by words and training, I can manage my kids that way too.

I had a little conversation with my 9 year old today and by the time I was done quietly lecturing him, he was in full blown tears. THen I explained why I pushed him so far, so he would remember this and never forget it. Ever. I never yelled. Not this time. I just know my kids and where to apply a little pressure.

My kids do more chores than most kids. THey contribute to the family and I teach them skills. THey can cook, do laundry, swing an ax, swing a hammer. Catch a chicken. And think!! I play with them and pray they will come home to visit often when they are all grown up. Maybe move back in to take care of me in my old age. I actually mentioned THAT one today!! Planting the seed!!

Oh, no - those were the overnight temps DURING the nine-day freeze! Daytime temperatures have been in the mid-fifties since then, with a day or two of low-60s.

We're swinging back that way tomorrow, though.

Quote: RIght now I would love the mid-fiftes!!!

Big storm to hit thru-sat-- 16-24 inches of snow. A PITA for sure, but oh so pretty. Very little snow fall here this year. For the second year in a row. Very odd. But then our weather has been odd for a number of years now.

I'm in the northern rockies at 7000 ft and i can see the weather changes here to. it used to get -20 plus the wind,2004 Jan and Feb all15 rabbits had to move into my laundry room. in the last 3 or 4 years it hasn't gotten below 0 for more than a night at a time. oh and we have been in the high 40s low 50s for a week.....sorry

I learned to drive a stick when I was 14. Wisher, stop reading now. My godmother lived in the backwoods of Maryland, before it was built up. She took me out driving one day in her jeep, then got about a mile from her house, parked at the bottom of the hill, and told me "Get back home. See you in a few hours." She walked home. She was there much quicker than I was.

OK, Wisher you can start reading again.

Arielle... that storm is coming. This was last night's weather prediction, I swear they're pointing right to my house:

SCG--I saw that report yesterday--today the model is different, or maybe I'm watching a different station . . . . the darkest coloring has moved south !! I was in the mid ranges, but now will get the full load of snow. Planning to keep the kids home tomorrow. ANd today is run around like a maniac to prepare day. It's New England.

Insanity-- we did have a few days in the 50's, oh that felt wonderful. January will have a spell like that of a few days of very warm weather, then it drops like a rock along with high winds. Even I can forecast the weather these day. If the wind blows we are in for a change.
