The Old Folks Home

*Felix is holding his tongue about his thoughts on caponization.*

I think stealing apples is okay when it's a kid doing it, and only taking two or three. A grown man doing it is just shameful. Especially when many people give away their apples for free. A security camera might work against the thieving, without blocking dog access.

There, there Alaskan. You just need some TLC,

Alaskan- you are in Anchorage right? My daughter is near there and is very responsible and 24 working 2 ft jobs, and might be looking to move again soon.. her bf of 3+ years and her just broke up after moving into a new place she can't afford. Anyhoo.. stop being a nosy mom DK in the chicken forums doh! I hear my daughter's voice "Oh MOM! Stop momming me to DEATH!"

I would feed you wine and beef pot roast if you were here.

Nah, I am about 6 hours drive from Anchorage.....

the person moving in tomorrow morning is a cute little kid, 19... He will probably only be in it until the spring

I have several different places that I rent out. I even have a few dry cabins. The least expensive runs only $125 a month. And that includes the electric for one small deep freezer that stays in the shared washer drier room. I think their cabin, that used to be the Banya, is only 8x8. They did add on a porch. The heat by wood, and have an outhouse, no water. But, they do get enough electric to run a few lights at their place.

Luckily, we haven't had such experiences with tenants yet... We are redoing an apartment right now, I just finished the kitchen yesterday. Still need to clean it, but it should be ready next week.

Yeah...I have problems with this place........ it is easier to rent and make money off of the junk places, or my one really nice house, but this one is a daylight basement, and it just isn't all that great.

I was wondering......looking at the cabinet fronts that I couldn't scrub all the way clean, the stained carpet, and the stove that refused to go to the 'clean' function....if I should shell out the bucks to upgrade......

but who would spend big bucks to live in a basement? I dunno if I could raise the rent at all......

Maybe two years back I had a guy move into the basement, and then one of my $200 a month dry cabins became vacant, and he moved out of the place with a working kitchen (microwave, range, fridge and sink), flush toilet and a shower with almost unlimited hot water, and almost 700 square feet of room, to move into a tiny dry cabin.

The cabernet sauvignon rex Goliath has is darn good, we killed almost 1/2 the huge bottle tonight, and we're not big drinkers. Very mellow, berry and vanilla easy to drink and $8.99 for a 1.5 litre bottle of good drinking wine.

Bah boxed beer! We picked up a 6 pack of hard cider too. I anticipate by Monday our booze stash will be depleted, especially if caponize goes badly. My bf is very attached to 1 roo he named Brazen. Brazen will be last to go under the knife. Which is why he's dropping me off to get *gasp* more roosters tomorrow, in fact, I'm packing up 20 pullets in the am to sell/trade for more cocks. B/c we can't get enough cocks around here learning how to caponize, which is and isn't funny. I have obviously been drinking.
Warning PUI... (posting under the influence)

I have to say this about Caponizing.... Love you but i am not into it. The only reason these days is to keep a roo from crowing.... But it really needs to be done at a very young age... 6 weeks to 3 months according to what I have read... Younger the better because the process is easier.... Rooster testicles are pretty large after a certain age.

With the new breeds like Cornish Crosses and even Bresse.... they all get to butcher size pretty quickly.. Especially the Cornish Crosses. even before they learn to crow.

Cornish crosses I believe get to butchering size by six weeks... before crowing ensues.

Please excuse the type os... Son brought home some Stone brewery IPA... YummmO...

talking of people who are oblivious to how the world is supposed to work:

I am still a bit ticked

I just spent hours cleaning up an apartment, with all of my kids helping.....didn't get finished until 9 at night, way part the bedtime for the 6 yr old and 9 yr old. -sigh-

But even the little ones were very helpful..... the 6 yr old bagged up all of the clothes.

Anyway, a renter, kept lying and lying and lying and lying. Got to the point that if she told me she was going to do something, I knew it wouldn't happen. I obviously though didn't REALLY learn that lesson, because I kept hoping that she really would move her stuff out, even though it was clear she wasn't gonna pay me.

I waited until the last minute, because she did keep stringing me along, and I REALLY didn't want to do it......

But nope, had to move out all of her stuff, clean everything, scrub everything, I am TIRED, and the kids are TIRED. The big flatbed truck is stuffed, so I couldn't haul off the bags of trash. I need to get up early enough tomorrow to get all of the trash bags hauled into my car, and pick up all of the trash that was left outside by the parking area...and hope all of that fits in the car.....

All before the new tenant shows up.

Also, the stove is partly busted, I wasn't able to clean the walls as well as I would have liked (my hands started hurting too much), and even the newly painted wall looks dingy.

My back hurts...her couch was WAY heavy. I decided her giant TV is now a part of the apartment, because I wasn't about to move that, it looked heavier than the couch. -blah-

I am ticked, I am upset, I am TIRED, and I hurt, and I think I am way hungry. The spouse is gone, and no one has fed me properly.

Ohhh Poor baby..... I so know how you feel.... i had a roomate/tennant that did that to me... I still have residue from when she lived there.... fortunately for me I am done renting..... ever.

Sending a big pot of stew for you and all your worker bees. I didnt have help clearing out her crap.... would have loved even someone to sit on the sidelines and say.... "poor baby" occasionally.
