The Old Folks Home

bamachicks8, so sorry about your little pup.

SCG, wow! I know that snow like that brings problems, but I'd love to see it once in my life. Right now I'm trying not to dread the sort of sweltering heat and humidity that we have here in the summers.

SCG do you have power still? How much snow have you got? Is it still falling? We are supposed to get snow today (not nearly as much as you New Englanders). In preparation for our snow "storm" I had 100 bales of hay delivered and trimmed two horses feet yesterday. Snow fal so far? Trace amount. I guess we will have the typical "fizzle" here. Hope all of you New Englanders are keeping warm and safe!

Yes, we still have power. Last summer crews came in and basically cut huge swaths of trees down around all the lines. We haven't lost power since they did that.

No idea how much snow we have. With all the wind (it sounds like a train outside - the wind even picked up my 40 pound cold frame) it's blowing in some parts so there's only a dusting on the ground, in other areas it's about 4 feet. When I went out to give the ducks water it was up to my knees in most spots. Higher in some, lower in some, but I'd say we got at least 2 feet right now. It's supposed to continue until about 4 pm and maybe get another 5 to 8 inches.

I wanna play in it. laughs

being from Cali, as a kid, I could visit the snow. Moved inland (Below the Mountains) and we would get a little snow sometimes. I would have to work up the mountains when it was always snowy in the winter, and that was fun but quickly because a pain.. Moving to NC, We get a couple of days of snow a year, so far, which makes it fun cause it melts in a day or so if we got enough to stick. I know I could handle having lots of snow but find I would rather not deal with more than I have to at my age.

I know you all up North will be ok, but just the same..
Take care, have fun if possible and be well....

I can handle the cold-- 24 feels like a heat wave these days and I"m i n new patterns to handle getting water to everyone regularly. Even the snow is ok--heck it is very pretty. I HATE the summers- over 80 and I"m useless,

We have drifts over my knees and the rest just under my knees -- guessing about 24 inches. ANd still snowing.

In for a quick break, then back to snow blowing. Kids want to snow shoe already. Said they have to wait until chores are done. Bet they don't realize that mean tomorrow at the earliest!!

YEs, we still have power. Horray!!

I don't mind! More arms, and backs, and legs to SHOVEL.

Bring it!

Good thing I didn't hatch for new years, because that is the hoop coop those chicks would be in now.

The neighbor just called and left a VM wanting to know "the number for my plow guy." She knows darn well that we own our own plow and she is the queen of beating around the bush. I've told her a bunch of times that I'd rather just be directly asked for something.

A few minutes ago I finished putting Blue Kote on my chicks exposed and half-eaten brains (missed that? https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/743361/just-hatched-brains-exposed) and put him back in the brooder. So far the brain-camouflage appears to be working. The chick is able to stand, but is sleeping a lot. It spent most of the morning sleeping in my hands while I tried to determine its fate.

Aww SCG- good wishes for the special needs chick.

And looks like you have more snow than us-- snow at my doors was only about 10 inches, not sure why really when all else was over 24 inches. Huge donuts of missing snow around the tree trunks-- very surreal. Loving it.

Same here, but my high is much lower, I function best between 35* and 50*. between 50* and 70* I do okay, but could get too hot if I have to work in direct sun. Over 70*? Short stints outside, with lots of water, and long inside AC breaks. Yeah, I should have been from a cooler climate!

SCG- Don't cull it just yet...check this out...http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mike_the_Headless_Chicken
and I am STILL so there! I can run a shovel pretty well!
