More tragedy this week apparently. Today, a student in a school in Lapland stabbed another student to death, and now I read there's been a school shooting in Seattle, at least four wounded and one person killed in addition to the shooter taking his own life.

Yep according to the press the ones that get reported to the news are just a fraction of what happens year round.... The US has the highest rates of this in the WORLD.... sheesh

re: painting. Living in New Mexico everything building-wise is earthen colors, stucco and adobe. Ours is a pretty sedate neighborhood. Barn red would make it stick out like, well, a red building. We want subtle chickens. I figured they may make noise, but at least the neighbors cannot complain about the coop. I've opted instead to stain the shingles a cedar color and go with white trim, possibly a contrasting color door like a lot of New Mexicans do. (My personal house door is a bright turquoise on a very dark stucco house with white trim..it has a nice red ristra on it). (Gawd, I'm SUCH a Martha) Under the trees the coop will blend in nicely so that unless you're looking from the street beyond the orchard and grapes you won't really see it.

Of course, the run will be quite visible as it will be out in the sun, framework painted white and have a shingle-covered roof and weather vane on it. The weather vane is of a howling coyote.....

I was cleaning the chickens' pen in the back bedroom (as their quarters are not quite ready yet) and it was SO cute...one flew up and sat on my shoulder.

I checked .... It ain't me! I took my boots off outside and had a bath (well shower) used soap and everything, and it ain't even Saturday yet.
