Agh. Well today is very long already. My house smells like a barnyard. Maybe b/c there's been chickens inside for 10 days?

Which brinsea for hatching? And which is a good bator for doing continual hatchings? Santa asked me to be specific.

For staggered hatching I use a Brinsea advance 40 for incubating and a Genesis 1588 for hatching. I have two Genesis incubators and sometimes hatch in both of them.

I'm running in 'Safe Mode with Networking'. It's the only way the computer will keep working for more than 5 minutes. I've tried several fixes but nothing helps yet. I haven't installed any hardware or software. I tried restore to earlier points thinking automatic updates may have been the culprit.
I have to burn all my pictures onto some CDs or a flash drive.
I'm trying to decide whether to put a new primary drive in the last computer that bit the dust or buy a new tower with open bays so I can put these drives in as slaves.
Or just buy a laptop but that wouldn't solve getting the data off of the last 2 computers.

I kept my last computer alive for eight years till it stopped working more often than not. Some one gave me a small USB hard drive and I backed up all my pix to that.... But the deal is I just went a head and bought a new computer. Some of the new softwares out there require a more modern motherboard. If you take the old computer to a place that builds computers They can do the back up and save it for you. Then install it on the new computer..... The thing to do is back up all your different softwares or have the installation disks ready to reinstall.

When I went with a new computer I opted for as much as I could afford with a tower. Heat is an issue here so I got a water cooled heat reducer on the mother board. As well as a SSD hard drive. 250GB but I want to replace it with a Terabyte. Its soo odd to have my computer boot up and hear nothing ..... not even the fan comes on.... But now I am happy with my choice.

Laptops here last two years .... too hot even with a cooling dock.

Ouch 2 years, my laptop is 8... I could sure use a new one...

what do you mean you start the eggs in one incubator then move them to another when tjhey are due to hatch??

Keeps your main bator cleaner for one, if you use a second for hatching....

Yes! The Brinsea runs all the time and more eggs are added weekly. During the last three days, lockdown, they go into the Genesis.

Thanks for that info. Water cooled is a great idea for you. Not necessary here. I do have to put laptops up where air can get underneath. Using a laptop on a bed or on anything that will block air is a bad idea.
I think I'll just put the pics and important files on a flash drive or two. CDs and DVDs are more awkward. I'm all about simplicity when possible.

I've built all my computers for the last 20 years. Except the current one which was a hand me down from someone that was moving.

My basement is full of towers, motherboards and other components. Time to get rid of anything I don't plan on using again.

That makes it easier to do staggered hatches and change humidity for both.
I also hate hatching in Styrofoam incubators because of cleaning the debris.

If I were into that much Incubation I would probably invest on a cabinet incubator.... they start at around 600 new but they can occasionally be bought used. some have a bottom tray that is stationary for hatching. just put in a plastic tray inside that and you can keep everything very clean.
