The Old Folks Home

dsqard, those bibs are really cool. A lower set of teeth and a hanging tongue might look cool too.

The funny thing is I thought the same thing about the tongue after they were all made. I was following a pattern and it didn't have those on it. I might do more of these with the additions. Great idea vehve. :D

We're still in the process of unpacking (as in our living room became our storage area for the moving boxes) and so I'm not sure where or if we'll have an indoor tree this year. However, there's a nifty blue spruce out on the front lawn that just screamed for holiday decoration. It has solar lights on it in strands of white and red that light up with the sun goes down. Since this photo there has been added a couple of Beanie Baby-like cardinals to the top branches.

Woah. What a find!

We did that one year with popcorn and cranberries. We did enough popcorn for the 9 foot tree and saved it in ziplock bags for 2 years.

the last year it started falling off the string. We only did enought cranberries to string around a small tree. We ended up putting it outside for the birds. Cranberries are hard to get the needle through. so we gave up.

I would love to do cranberries too but the strength in my hand probably won't let me string those either.

I have scarves to make and I had to switch to arm knitting because my fingers go numb. Too much internetting. eh?

I used to have everything done by Thanksgiving weekend. Now I just got the outside lights up and this week I'll put the tree up. I like a real tree but this year it's going to be the artificial ones. I used to have 12 trees. One in every room. And a village of 68 houses and buildings. But this house is smaller so I've toned it down quite a bit. 3 or 4 trees maybe. And I've yet to put any of the 30 remaining houses and buildings up of the village. Maybe Next year. It takes soooo Looonnnng.

CC love your set up! I like the rain barrel set up to. But how do you get water in it? Did I miss something?

Dsqard those are so cool!!! Lucky receipients!

12 trees?

I bet the village is nice. My wife has a small one she sets up on a big mirror with cotton as snow and a cleared area that looks like a frozen lake.

My original intention was to fill the barrels with rainwater from the roof which may have worked. In fact, I placed them just below the guttering outlet. Then I decided I didn't want to hassle with filtering it because all of the buildings are under trees there would always be debris flowing in and once it got into the barrels I was afraid of what would grow in there likely tainting the poultry water.
I run a hose out there and use city water. Not a big hassle since I only have to do it every 2 or 3 months. I also thoroughly rinse the barrels once a year. I was putting probiotics in the water but I stopped that now that the probiotics are in the fermented feed.

LOL.... Reminds me of the time I did a popcorn strand for the inside tree. Guess what? Not a good idea if you have dogs. Sneaky canine thought the middle of the night would be a good time to pull it off the tree, which had the consequence of pulling the tree over. Merry Christmess!

I'm still wanting to add a rain barrel with mine. I can get a 275 tank though too for $75, (or 2 like yours for 25 each). I would have to re slope my gutters to the back because I don't want a 4 foot cube out front. lol. not a big deal. 24 chickens use 2-3 gallons a day and I'm tired of carrying it. I take out 4 gallons every day and sometimes 5.

The house with the 12 trees was an old victorian brick home and it all looked good. We has 1/3 of an acre and lots of backyard we decorated all up with lights. Our own festival of lights. This house is mid century and original siding was like a tudor. Now it's just vinyl siding and the set up is different so here it's a case of less is more. There's 2 1/2 acres but now who wants to pay that big of an electric bill to light it all up, and to buy that many LEDs would cost a small fortune. So now I decorate more normal.

that's why you tie the tree to a curtain rod with fishing line. We did that for many years, then our kids grew up and we stopped. But now we have a new puppy who is large and clumsy. So I think our tree will be tied again. Plus a couple of busy grand babies. :)
