why not give bread to chickens?

I give bread to my chickens every morning. They know. They come running. Have done this for years. It's their favorite treat. I use cheap wheat bread. A lot of people worry about it blocking their crop. I have to wonder, it goes soft pretty fast I would imagine.

The girls get the leftovers either Saturday or Sunday, whichever day I decide to bake bread. Some weeks they just get the very small heels of the 2 loaves, some weeks they get a loaf and a half. All depends.
