The Old Folks Home

Thanks Bunnylady, Hennible and SCG and Oz I love the duckling pics they are just so cute! My hens will not hold still for the duck he grabs them and they take off hollering. lol
But they do wind up with some bald spots poor things. Thanks SCG and Bunnylandy for the hatching info. I know that this duck was raised with chickens so he feels right at home with them. I will try to introduce the young ducklings into the family while they are young as my girls are usually pretty easy on young birds and see how it goes.

do the oils make it slippery or something when plucking?

Makes it impossible for the water to penetrate down to the shaft to get the feathers scalded so they pluck easier.

@superchemicalgirl , @chickadoodles I have duck eggs every day...they are khaki Campbell ducks. Nice big eggs, happy to share.

From what I've read they're only 3-5 lbs at maturity? Is that true? Do they fly? How much do you charge for 6?

I have only seen them fly about 3-4 feet off the ground and for a distance of maybe 15 feet. Yes they are definitely under 5lbs, DH thinks maybe 4. For eggs?...maybe $8 and shipping. Would think shipping is pretty cheap since they're not heavy, have not shipped eggs so not sure. For babies...$8 a duckling.
Edited to add...they don't make good cuddling pets but they are great eggs layers!

If I were to get Ducks, I would get Silver Appleyard ducks.
My drool and dream duck is a Silver Appleyard Call . . . .

I knew someone years ago who had a pair of Khaki Campbells that flew a lot better than that. Their birds were allowed to free range, and this pair were really "ranging;" they went out and fed in the marshes every day. Every evening when they fed, this pair would come winging in, along with several Mallards.
