CC do you know if I can grow a dwarf tangerine tree from seed and it still produce fruit?

I noticed you haven't visited much.
So much to comment on here and I won't try to be complete except that I have to agree.
I hate processing day and culling no matter how necessary.
Whenever I read about some with a bird or 2 or a whole flock that are constantly getting ill it makes me wonder, why are these birds always coming down with something.
It makes me wish I could visit them and observe their management techniques and housing. Most importantly ventilation and bedding.
(And then disinfect all of my clothing when I return)
The bigger the hardware cloth covered coop widows, the healthier my birds are - regardless of season or temperature.
I'm also amazed at the people that will seek out medical advice from feed store personnel. Did I miss the memo that feed store clerks have gone to vet school?

So who medicated jungle fowl for millions of years. Oh, right, no one.
It was survival of the fittest and they're not extinct.
They also lived without coops in a huge range of climates with no concern for drafts.
Their descendants were developed over centuries, also without meds in a huge range of climates with no concern for cooping them up.

I switched to using nipple chick water fountains last year--no cocci. Management does make a difference!

Is anyone on this thread an expert at chick sexing? Is it the chicks with long wing feathers that are girll? I hope several. I have one chick that is getting a tail feather at 4 days old and it has long wing feathers. Anyone know?

Fast feathering is a breed trait. It will work for a lot of hatchery breeds because they have leghorn mixed in. It works for some lines of RIRs but not all. Sometimes the fast feathering gender is the male but if leghorn is mixed in it will be the pullets.

You need to check into the specifics for your breed and line if you have breeder stock.

Feather sexing by color is largely dependent on parentage.
Fast feathering breeds/strains can be sexed as day olds. Pullets will have 2 lengths of flight feathers, cockerels a single length.
What are fast feathering strains? Who knows if you have one. By 4 days old it's too late.
Other feathering traits will take much longer to show. Cockerels with pointy wing, hackle and curved tail feathers. Pullets rounded. With some Mediterranean breeds, one can tell by the comb at just a week or so. If all of the same breed, cockerels will have thicker and longer legs before long.

To vent sex is a rare and high dollar skill.

Starting with vigorous stock, management makes all the difference.

If you already have the seed, it's worth a try. Better yet, just buy a young one.

Feather sexing usually works with Marans.

This has a lot of information on different ways to determine gender in chicks. I usually just wait until they are older though. Then the go into the dinner pen or the egg laying pen!

The tree will most likely produce fruit eventually, but since it is from seed, the fruit will not be identical to that produced by the parent. It may not be as tasty, or it might even be better - there's no telling. Dwarf fruit trees are usually the result of grafting a particular cultivar onto dwarfing rootstock, so your trees will most likely grow to normal size. A funny thing about citrus - trees grown from seed typically have truly wicked thorns.
