The Old Folks Home

They manufacture here and there. Toyota and Mercedes have US factories too, but I wouldn't call them Mercan cars.

Gerber to my understanding is originally founded in the US even though Fiskars owns them now. So the US made shovels that your mimitary uses are also designed in Finland :).

Fiskars is Finland's oldest company that's still in business.

Yup - its not where the product is made - its the raw materials and quality controls

Exactly Oz, design, materials and quality control is what matters, where it's made isn't as significant. Except for the job creating factor, which you could consider important too. Chinese people are interesting, this is a very generalized view based on a week long business trip, but when our team was outsourced to Beijing, I went there to teach them how to do our job. It was a bit frustrating, because somehow I got the feeling that the employees there were not as creative, they learned quickly to follow a very specified set of instructions, but when I tried to get them to understand more general concepts, it was a bit difficult for them.

I didn't see Virpi poop a single time yesterday, this morning I hydrated her a bit more again, and just now she pooped again. It was an enormous, wet, dark greenish brown poop, and I don't think I've ever smelled anything as horrible. Thank god I had just gotten her back in the box. Either her digestion is starting up, or she's crashing. I'll give her until the evening to see which it seems to be.

moments like these I am glad there is no olfactory internet transmissions

tell that chook to "man up" and live!!

Well, she just ate about 20 kernels of canned sweet corn all by her lonesome. Picked them out from the rest of the food, so that's a good sign. Not exactly a balanced diet, but I figure anything is good at this point. I still had to hold the bowl in front of her though, so I'm still not convinced she's decided to get better. I'd prefer her to woman up in this case, no use getting another rooster.

I could scoop some up in a little bottle and send it to you, you'd get the olfactory experience with a slight delay... Seriously, that was the worst smelling thing I've smelled in a long time. I'm not usually squeamish, but I almost lost my breakfast into that brooder.

A turken geneticist! Maybe you can answer this. I'm getting a trio of cemani turken crosses. She said her roo was 'bowtied' so she is only getting a percentage with the naked neck, she's keeping all of those and saved me some nice dark ones with no NN. What is the chances of getting NN chicks from those? I don't really want any with the NN, but it wouldn't hurt my feelings if I did, they'd look pretty cool with the black skin.

Naked neck gene is dominant - one copy = bow tied naked neck, two copies = full naked neck, no copies = regular feathered bird.

Let's call the rooster bow tie bird Nn (N = naked neck gene, n = regular gene) and the regular hen cemani birds without naked neck will be nn (both regular genes). Remember your Mendelian genetics... each parent gives one copy of their genes to their offspring?

N
n
n
Nn
nn
n
Nn
nn

So the offspring will be 50% Nn (bowtied) and 50% nn (regular feathered).

I think your original question though is would you get turken offspring from non naked neck birds? The answer is no. They don't have any copies of that gene. All copies of the gene are visible with the varying levels of naked neckedness.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, Aliciahess, I am feeling better and still putting off going to the doctor (against BYC advice

you know who you are.) Iron is a possibility, I couldn't give blood, one time, because my iron was too low. I was offended. It felt like they were saying my blood wasn't good enough! I was in my 40's and it hasn't happened since although I don't jump up to give blood as often as I used to.

Go see the doc, Wisher.

I was declined for low hemoglobin once. It was the first time I was going to give blood. That was during my military service, we had a 15 mile full gear running competition the day before, and apparently you shouldn't drink a gallon of water before giving blood. Now I try to go every few months, it's starting to be time again.

Virpi again ate her 20 corn kernels. And she's been cleaning her feathers and moving her head around, even took a few steps. Slightly promising. But she's still not interested in drinking. Of course, the corn is wet so she is getting some fluids.
