For the entire thread!!!!

I have a chicken keeping question for all you highly experienced folk: IS citrus bad for chickens?

I ask because I have the opportunity to get some free (bruised) produce from the local grocery that I intend to share with my chickens. I go to get my first box and almost half of it is oranges. I don't want to be picky since I am getting it for free but I have read 1) chickens don't like citrus and 2) that the acid in it is not good for them.

I've never tried to feed it to them before.

Thoughts, advice?

Thanks!

Thanks. I had read something similar to that before but a refresher is nice. I generally stick to an all flock feed with oyster grit on the side. They get a cup full of scratch most days and then they get table scraps, bread and other stuff on occasion but they love veggies so I figure if I can get them for free and supplement their diet it will also decrease my feed bill. They also get some free range time most days, the amount of time varies depending on how much time we have to "guard" them. We have hawks around here that are quite bold.

not all are blood sucking b@stards

I actually dont have a problem with doctors.... I have had the misfortune to have an abysmal Pediatrician. What I do have an issue with is bureaucrats dictating protocol from actuarial tables. Kaiser has its bad points... or weakensses.

Mistakes do happen. I cant go to the site above...

As far as the hospital dictating that I go home in 24 hours after a Cezarian... That was Medi Cal. But in fact I was much happier dealing with the pain from home. A little scared though... single mom no signifigant other.... and I had never held a baby before my own.

They're ready to go for when the snow in the garden gets below 2 feet.

Our tulips are usually in bloom right now, they are under two feet of snow right now! Single digits at night for a couple more warming up to the teens, 30s and 40s daytime temps. Perfect weather for the maple sappers, mmm maple syrup!

I don't know how I feel about lists like that....

My chickens have busted into my greenhouse and eaten every single tomato plant that I had.....

They said "yum" there was no digestive upset noticed.

They have also gotten into my vegetable garden and eaten a large number of potato plants.... ditto... the chickens were thrilled, not sick, and definitely not dead.
