Yeah, I would definitely be thinking hungry bear. They are probably awake here too. I was out the other day putting away the bird feeders and locking all the feed bins. We don't generally have much trouble from them except this time of year. I even have lovely long claw marks on the bin that sits on the porch next to the back door.
At least our "rodents" don't get as large as yours and no Grizzlies.
