The Old Folks Home

Years ago, I read on BYC (maybe the predator thread) that electric fencing doesn't slow down BEARS, their thick fur is a great insulator. Besides the jolt may not be strong enough to knock them out of their shoes.

The way to deter bears with electric fencing is get a big charger.... then put out some sacrificial fence away from the real fence and hang a can of tuna fish on the fence.... Just the can wit a little of the oil in it That can will be electrified. Oh and strips of cloth to flap in the wind on the fence so they can see it.

When the bear comes up to investigate the yummy stuff they get Zapped on the nose and tongue... Likely they will pull the fence down as they run away. (sacrificial fence)

set up another one.... strips of cloth and all.

Train one bear and it will still stay in the territory and keep the other bears away.

The opposite of ours... I think we had about 400e for Jan and Feb together. In summer it will be around 75-100 per month. That includes heat, heating water, and all other power too though.
