The Old Folks Home

The theory is that Cancer, Pisces and Scorpio are fruitful signs.
It works for gardening. Plant above ground crops in the first 2 quarters of the moon phase. Below ground crops in the third quarter and clear brush/destroy vegetation in the 4th quarter.

My mother used to tell us when calves and foals would be born based on the moon.

I can understand the moon cycles in gardening, there they might work (although not because of the mystic reasons people credit to that), but I don't see a link between chicks and moon cycles. Especially when hatching in an incubator and brooding separately from mommy. The moon might somehow affect the behavior of a broody though.

I didn't say I totally buy in. I am going to be hatching a bunch anyway so that gives me a schedule.
I can also compare the next few batches to the previous few.

I sold a dozen hatching eggs last night. The buyer lives about a 100 miles away but works at the hospital near my house. It's about the same distance as the post office. Since I didn't have to hassle with packaging I gave her several extras.

CC, I'm not saying it would hurt in any way either. Who knows, you might even be able to charge more for the chicks with them being in tune with the universe and everything

Beer, I haven't seen any data, but I would assume that stress might be a triggering factor for labor. I know a lot of babies are born ca. 9 months after storms too...

Where can I find one of those?

Skipping over a few pages here but if no one has mentioned it to you yet dude, a swamp cooler will not work where you live in Alabama. Your relative humidity will keep it from cooling your house. I had swamp coolers in AZ (where because of the low humidity they work really well) and during monsoon season (thunderstorms just about every day) the swamp coolers just didn't work because there was too much water in the air for more to evaporate which is how they cool your house.
BTW congratulations on how well you are doing on the quitting. DH was supposed to quit this year too but he stopped working on it. I am hoping he tries again. I try very hard not to pester him about it. I know that was never a help when I was trying to quit.

One method of quitting that works for men is making a bet out of it. Bet 500 bucks each with a smoking buddy of yours that you two have to stay without cigarettes for a year. If either one of you fails, the other one gets the money. If both fail, your wives get the money. If both succeed, you're a whole lot closer to never smoking again after being without a cig for a year. Women tend to not get as competitive, but for some women that will work too.

I could call them the moonglow strain.
I'll talk it up on my website - if I ever get one.

The Old Farmer's Almanac is full of dates for doing stuff by moon phases or whatever. From egg setting to haircutting to castrating, planting, you name it and they've got just the right date for doing it. Kind of a fun read.

I did set one batch of eggs according to their timetable. It was a good hatch. Haven't thought about it since.
