That would probably move the vacuum to the other end of the jar, sort of. I haven't tried that. But the lid really isn't damaged by the spoon/fork thing either.

Oh, don't use anything sharp to do that though, my dad once tried to pry a jar open with a chefs knife. A semi detached index finger and 8 stitches later he learned his lesson. And the man was a food journalist at that point, making food and writing about it was his job, so he wasn't a stranger to knives.
