The Old Folks Home

Dang diva!!!!!!!!!

I was about to go pop the top off of one.... Just to seeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Because I have checked and double checked, my dates are NOT off, and my incubator temps were NOT off

I wanna see what t looks like in there -humpf-

If you had to guess...how close to hatching is this egg?

The chick is very small. At the end, it should be taking up most of the egg.

About half way.

middle to beginning of last week or developing poorly--veins look good though.
Is the air cell as big as it looks in this picture?
The air cell indicates too low of humidity or an old egg. It should not be that big.

Remember, humidity is guide to the air cell size. Also, incubating below 25% is often fatal. Try bumping humidity up 5 to 10 percent higher next time, or use fresher eggs.

Humm.... Well, I think that aircell is the right size, were it hatching today....

But since it clearly is not hatching today..... I guess I will add a bit of humidity... And see what happens.

The only thing that I can figure is that my temps were too low. My humidity was 30-ish... (Maybe a few spots of up to 40) Which should have been lovely.

The egg was fresh....

Of all the eggs in this setting, none look "done", but this one has the smallest embryo and the most left over space. The other leghorn egg is much more "full" but also does NOT look done. The other eggs are a pain to candle well, since they are not white.

I can clearly see moving chicks inside the eggs (and yes chicks, not rotting fluid).

So just how far behind can they be if my temps were too low?

Alaskan hope something good comes out of those eggs
