The Old Folks Home

I am kinda excited.... the kids broke my washing machine... again..... and instead of shelling out about 300 to fix it, I decided to pay more than double that and buy a new machine.

I am super stoked... with this new machine.. For the first time in my life I will NOT have to roll about on the nasty floor of the laundry room to unscrew the front kick plate of the washer, then yank the stupid lint trap off of its rubber shock holders, unscrew the front, dump it out, and then put it all back together.

This new machine is an LG and actually comes WITH AN EASY ACCESS TO THE LINT TRAP!!!!!!!!

The joy! the happiness!!!!

I looked that the machines here in my tiny town, that I could have bought and brought home today (because almost a week without a washer, in a house that runs about 5 loads a day, is a very very bad thing, a scary thing) and one had the lovely kick plate, screw the entire thing off like what I have been doing for years, and the OTHER model had a SOLID FRONT!

I looked at the solid front one, and WOWSERS! Like really? I would then have to unscrew the door, and then the front? Or pull the entire machine out of its cubby spot, and unscrew a side?????

Not sure, but any which way, the exact opposite of tempting.

I asked the salesman how anyone can manage to keep a machine like that running for longer than 4 months since you have no real way of cleaning out the trap. He kind of looked at me and shrugged, he clearly didn't understand what I was talking about, or why anyone would have to clean out the washing machine lint trap about once a month.

That guy must not have kids.

Anyway... the thought of being able to just reach down and EASILY clean out the trap..... dudes, I could clean it ONCE A WEEK!!!!

I could keep it running like a dream! Purring like a kitten! And I would never even have to use a screw driver!

So awesome!

yep, washing machines have a lint trap, but they hide it from you, so that you have to spend money on a repair man to clean it out for you.

All of the water goes from the drum into a tube, then into a plastic lint trap, it is about the size of a coke can, with holes almost exactly the size of BBs that catches all of the lint, and tiny Legos, nails, screws, and other goodies that you tossed into the washer... and then the water goes into another hose and out the machine and then into wherever you have the drain.

If I don't clean it out.... at about month 4 without being cleaned, the washer can no longer drain. Cleaning it out once a month helps it work better.... being able to clean the lint trap every week with this new machine should be awesomely fantastic!

I have never heard of one.... and I have never had to have someone come and clean one out.... Is this something new?

I have an LG front loader (I'm also washingmachineicidal sometimes) and the lint trap is on the front left bottom, easy access, no tools required. Since we have a farm and lots of shavings and hay that stick to clothing, our lint traps needs to be cleaned out once a week or so.

Glad you got a new, easy to use, machine.

As far as the goaticidal goes, my goats are fairly well behaved... for goats. The nubian is as sweet and well behaved as can be but has this screaming problem that I can't stand. I know it's just part of her breed characteristics, but the screaming makes me absolutely out of my mind. The lamancha half breed has a cute little "baaaah" noise she makes but she is BAD. I had let them out last night while cleaning their house, and I have 4.4 acres of property in which maybe 100 square feet is "off limits" for goats. The garden has a little fence around it. Not goat proof, but clearly a warning. She knocked it down and then ate part of my garden before I could get there. And they knew they were bad, you could see it in their eyes as they ran off before I got there. Then there's this one bush that they love to eat, but it's a decorative bush that my parents gave me that I planted near the house and I don't want it destroyed by goats. I'm constantly chasing them away from it, and they know they shouldn't be near it. I had chased Caramel off it a few times last night while also trying to clean the goat house out. I had just chased her away (the hose is a better deterrent but doesn't reach to where I was located) and got back to the goat house, when she walked back up to the bush, turned to look at me to make sure I was looking at her, then started munching on it again.

I think they are talking about the new style washing machines. My old style washer does not have a lint trap--of course it is 10 plus years old too.

What are you washing in that thing? Sheep?

I can't recall the last time I cleaned the filter in mine. <sigh> Another thing to add to the "probably should do" list.

We have a Miele washer; I swear, that thing has more electronics than my car! It has sensors for all kinds of things, when an alarm goes off, it even tells us what the problem is. I wish my animals could do that.
