The Old Folks Home

Chickadoodles my eyes are playing tricks on me again. I thought you wrote "I'm have been trying to 'sell' my kids to start being more frugal." Oops
OOPS! No I guess I tried typing after taking my knock out meds. lol Thanks Diva.

I was hoping to sell of some large brooders that are just taking up space here they are both 4'x12'.
My husband is a farmer and he has made me more frugal and I have tried telling my kids they need to be more frugal. heheehe
I have got to get ready to go back to the Dr. and see if I am getting better. lol I still can't talk, no voice.

Hope you'll be doing better, are you just hoarse or also allergy flareup?

PS your other post I responded to: you wrote everything clearly, I just don't see very clearly. My problem not yours. I really didn't think you were going to sell your kids.

my apologies what you said before was that it was a spur of the moment purchase.... I am not trying to be a "know it all"...

No!! Please don't take it like that at all, it was a total spur of the moment purchase after the Lyme's fiasco. I recall looking at guinea egg sales the year before and realizing they were seasonal layers so I wouldn't be able to get eggs easily in the early spring when the ticks are hatching, and rearing them indoors for a few weeks would put a major damper on tick deaths, so I purchased now.
I basically googled what they eat and how long it takes to hatch. I neglected to notice the "increased humidity" needed in the incubator until I had a ton pipped for 24 hours and not doing anything. I had to go in and help them - all but 2. One was really badly stuck and had a wry neck for a few hours after I de-tombed it. THEY ARE NOT CHICKENS.
Please, keep the knowledge coming. I basically know what they eat, how long it takes to hatch, that they tend to flip over very easily (and not really scream about it) which doesn't exclude the water dish, they are going to be married to my brooder, they're on or off and they're a bunch of dingbats.

More, please.

Oh whew... thanks. I am just excited for you.... and when that happens I SPEW info.... then after reading I feel it looks like I am trying to lord it over.

I loved my guineas and will have another large flock next go round. the bigger the better. thank goodness I like the noise as well.... LOL.

Hey right now if you sit and listen you will hear their chatter peeping away.... But then you will notice a rapid fire Peep Peep.... My theory is thats the girls... not substantiated yet ...

Boys are quieter thought they all can screech enough to drive off a coyote...

Do they feather pick, and brutalize (ie, cannibalize) each other like chicks/chickens sometimes do? I've heard they mob snakes - which in my book is the best reason to have them, next to meerkats who, watch the sky for raptors).

I used to go to my Grand Parents place and collect Guinnea eggs from their nests in the field. They were the best eggs!

Perchie, in other words guineas wouldn't make the best house pets??

Um that would be a resounding NO. Within the poultry yard they are not necessarily the best citizens. But they are an excellent walking burglar alarm and predator alarm and Funny hat alarm and OMG the delivery truck alarm...

LOL.

They iwll kill snakes though... and are death on mice and lizards and creepy crawlies....

Chickens are good too but most stay out of the fray... When you see a picture like this imagine a cacopony of buzzing and Guinea yelling and screeching...

Much like this:
