The Old Folks Home

I just planted my last side-of-the-road-bulb-bomb this morning. I got "caught" by a hunter who parked, got out of his truck and then stared at me until I was done and skipped back to my car.

I have a few more places that I'd like to plant, but I'm out of bulbs. Think I'll wait til next year on those spots.

This weekend I need to finish getting the bees ready for winter. I am attempting to make quilt boxes for them this year (supposed to absorb moisture) but my first attempt culminated in me gluing the box I was making to the floor of the garage. Not exactly my finest work. I have their extra food (candy board) ready to install and I cut out insulated styrofoam to go above the quilt box if I can ever get it made.
The hunter probably thought you were burying something besides bulbs

I like the "side-of-the-road-bulb-bomb" idea. Daffodils are fine here but tulip bulbs seem to be the most sought after of mid-winter snacks for the varmits. Next year I will have to split some of my dafs and replant in unexpected places.

Ditto what @chickadoodles said, we need pictures of the quilt boxes.

SCG hope the hunter didn't dig up your bulbs thinking you were a bulb terrorist. Or maybe he was poaching and worried that you were spying on HIM.

May I rant for a moment?

We are under siege at the fair. Someone posted something on a certain social media site, and the whole thing has become like a game of Chinese Whispers ("Can you believe these people?? They had a pig give birth during a race!!!!!") I have known "these people" for many years; the personal attacks are completely unwarranted. But of course, it's much more fun to go off half-cocked than to get the real story and not detonate at all.

Oh, wait . . . . . I forgot. I'm one of "these people," aren't I? So naturally, I'm biased.

One of the other "acts" at the fair has a couple of performing elephants. I haven't had time to watch it, so I don't know what they do, but of course, just the fact of them being there gets a certain element that shall go nameless bent all out of shape. We have to deal with a certain amount of this every year, but we are being "infiltrated" by pamphlet-passers.

Last night, we had a woman in the livestock tent that was taking pictures of the empty water pan in one of the pigs' pens. . . . . the pan that we.fill several times a day, because they keep stepping in it and flipping it. We have several people wearing gray shirts with SECURITY printed on them in the tent all the time; we had at least a dozen volunteers in the tent at that time, some adults, some children, most wearing bright red shirts with LIVESTOCK STAFF in big white letters; why couldn't she just point out to one of us that those pigs didn't have water? *sigh* I reckon Animal Control is gonna get a call about how we aren't feeding or watering the animals AGAIN.

As if the weather weren't enough to deal with. Gads, I'm tired.

what would the problem be of one of the pigs giving birth during the race?

and many times prior to the show, we intentionally don't water our pigs.after the show, the pig pens have bite nipples and the water will get turned back on.

next time you see someone taking pics of empty water pans, take pics of them!!

Bert - ON THE TRACK during the race. Seriously, folks - you really think they loaded a pig in labor into the starting gate? What did she do, lay down in the backstretch, or did she pop one out with every jump? GEEZ.

I find it hard to believe, they didn't know she was in labor, but I still don't see the big stink over it? lol maybe the action of running, let them pglets kind of slide out on the corners?

Deb keep it up! Great job so far. My niece is also doing this challenge that you are doing. I forget where she is on her word count but she is plowing through too. Cheering both of you on!
SCG sent me my own small bulb bomb package last week and I went out last weekend and picked up a few more to bomb a few different places. So far I got the cemetery and original jail in our small town, the 4-H garden in the next town over, right in front of the gun club sign and a few other random spots. It was a blast doing it. I had the whole story set in my mind if anyone asked me what I was doing but no one stopped and asked. I figured if I looked like I should be doing exactly what I was doing no one was going to stop and I was right.
I finished up some Christmas wall hangings this morning before we headed out the door. I will be sending those off this weekend if I have enough mailing envelopes. I am hoping to get the wall hanging for my MIL done this weekend too and start on BIL's Christmas gift. Lots of projects going on right now in the rush before the holidays
