@superchemicalgirl

I did not completely answer your question about freezing the fresh pumpkin maxh.

I like to freeze stuff in the amount I will need for cooking. For the pumpkin pie, it is 2 cups of mashed pumpkin for each pie so I would freeze it in 4 cup amounts because it is silly to only bake one pumpkin pie!

This recipe has become the favorite:

Cc does the pain make the honey sweeter? I know the more I work for something the better it tastes. I finally have some down time again, been missing and working my butt off. The massacre continued on the chickens, I'm down to 15. How's every one been

Good news. The monster in the coop has been accepted to some degree. The rooster, and two hens will walk the plank, as Diva put it. The other two hens, wanted to, but just couldn't bring themselves to actually trust it enough to put their feet on it. Silly birds!

CC - that's one ugly mug :p

Deb, nice going with the writing!

Just had a scare here. Heard a thud, and went to investigate, and saw a hawk ripping out feathers from one of the pullets right on our deck. It got scared when one me armed with a frantic dachshund emerged, and left empty handed. Err, clawed? Well, the whole deck is covered in feathers now, found the rest of the flock hiding behind the compost and under my food storage cabinet, and the one that got hit was hiding under the rabbit hutch that's waiting to be packed away. Looks like it got plucked pretty well, but I didn't see any blood. Karin should be home any minute, and then we'll take a closer look. I didn't manage to catch her on my own, so I just locked everyone up. That's a good sign at least, she wasn't limping and she had the wits to head for the run when I shooed her from the hutch, and seemed to move at a good speed. But I reckon it's time to dig out the super glue once again.

Yikes! Sounds like that was a near thing!

I've seen chickens "faint" when stressed enough; I think it's a good sign that your bird was able to run and hide. I hope she'll be OK!

Those of you that use canned pumpkin buy it when you see it, I heard the manufacturer's said there is a big time shortage this yr and they expect to run out early.
I think baking the pumpkins is better then boiling, gives it a sweeter nuttier taste. Good pie pumpkins can be ate just like a butternut squash.
We have always grown sweet baby for pies, going to try cinderella or fairy tale next yr for their larger size.
Going to order Beppo pumpkins, they have lots of HULLESS!! seeds. The flesh isn't good but the chickens can eat them.
