The Old Folks Home

The only rooster I can hear is one in a pen on the back patio fattening on grain and milk.
I wish I could hear them. I haven't used the baby monitor in a while. I need to put it back out there.
I've been digging a trench with the help of my son and one of his friends. It is going to one of the chicken coops to lay some conduit and run electricity. I ran electric to the breeder complex a couple years ago but haven't connected the head end because I was waiting to get this run finished. I'll have to drill through the brick wall of my carriage house to bring the electric to my runs.
I hope to have 7 housing units wired. The 8th one doesn't need it. If I can get this done in the next few weeks I'll have warm circulated water during freezing weather.
It will also be a pleasure to do away with the extension cords all over the yard. And have actual light switches in coops rather than plugging lights in or pressing buttons on the fluorescent starters to get light.
Wish me luck.

I violated a few rules of beekeeping.
One is never go into the hive without a veil.
Also, one should always use a smoker.
You definitely don't want to get stung in late summer or fall when the venom is much more potent.
I had been in the hive the day before with no problems and all I wanted to do was add a feeder to the top so I wasn't planning on disturbing them but they were pretty agitated.

Ready for a real ugly picture?

I know you are supposed to keep an eye on aggressive bees, but.........does it have to be so literal?

Yikes. I looked like that (but with less facial hair) after a wasp got me on the temple last year. Not fun!

And so we say a fond fair-well to the Cape Fear Fair and Expo for another year. After one of the rainiest fairs that I can remember, it is perhaps fitting that we were breaking things down and loading up in a downpour. Not for the first time, a river runs through the tent

Aye although I at least went in with a veil. I did learn not to wear crocs that day, too, so CC add that to your list unless you want to not be able to walk along with that face!

I'm so sorry it happened but THANK YOU for sharing the laugh.

It happens to the best of us. I see videos of people without any protective gear going in and inspecting their hives. Sometimes they get stung. They don't show the aftermath like I did though.

I'm going in again in a few minutes but this time with a full suit - and a smoker.
