One thing I like is to go the opposite direction if someone tries to haggle too much. Especially if I've already agreed to lower the price. And that "I can get this cheaper somewhere else" bit is just bad negotiating. Only thing you're telling the seller then is that you're an idiot because you're trying to buy it from the more expensive place. With chains I like to use that myself though, because many of them do price matching. Some chains here even have a 30 day price guarantee. I went back 3 weeks after buying a washer-dryer combo and some other stuff, showed them prices from other stores, and got back 200 euros. That was pretty sweet.

Some people are so uninformed or ill-informed, you hardly know where to start. There's a thread in OP&L right now; someone has a dog that is identifiable as a certain (fairly common) breed, and they want to stud him out. Clearly, they either don't know or don't care about what is involved in making sure a dog can make a positive contribution to the breed gene pool, and I'd be willing to bet they really aren't interested in spending the time and money to find out if their dog stacks up. Most likely, they are hoping that the owners of similar backyard cr*p factories (but of the opposite gender) will help them to pay for the cost of keeping him. This sort usually knows that there is a certain standard for the breed, and they may even know that dogs of that breed can fetch high prices if they meet the standard, but they get all offended if you point out that they are most likely just adding to an already almost overwhelming problem by churning out low-quality animals at cheap prices.

CC I think you were just telling him like it is. Most people on CL or FB think they should get the best quality at flea market prices because so many of them buy from hatcheries and then try to sell for breeder stock prices. They are so confused with quality. I saw a lot of that when I listed my turkey and other birds I had bought and invested time and money in.
They need to do their research. Tell them like it is.

I sold a '78 Catalina last yr, had many get mad at me because I wouldn't budge on $, not even a little. "It's not worth that much" it is to me, low miles, I could drive it for another ten yrs putting no $ into it.
Either you want it or you don't. 'I want it just not at that price' then you don't want it bad enough.
The worst ones were the ones that drove a long ways to look at it, then tried to make me feel obligated to sell it for less.
I hate selling stuff....

Ain't that the truth! I sold and traded classic cars and boats for many years in Calif. but there were always those that don't want to pay.
But they are usually the ones that want to turn around and resell it for more than they paid for it.

CC, I don't think it was too harsh. You listed pullets for $35.00 each. They knew up front what you'd accept for them. What a lot of these yahoos' don't realize, it's not about what they're willing to pay, but about what you're willing to accept. In many instances, it's pure ignorance. Many have no idea what a breeding program is, other than to put a bunch of different hens out there with the pretty rooster that they got from the swap meet.

Hey CC I agree with what the others have already said. I actually think you went way beyond what was necessary in the way of explanations. I don't think I would have gone that in depth. If it were me, I'd say I wanted a pair of pullets at $35 each, and oh... yeah, I guess I'll take one of those cockerels off your hands too at $15. That way I still have a trio, though young, and wait it out for breeding, if that's what I was trying to do.
