The Old Folks Home

I can't find my service/discharge paperwork and I was slow to get to the VA for a card. Our records center used to be a long way away. My wife worked there before we were married but they had a huge fire that destroyed a lot of records. Perhaps you old timer vets remember that. It was the depository for all military records. But when I see the discounts for veterans I finally realized I needed to get on the ball because of all the money I was losing. When I looked up the address, the new one is about 5 miles up the road from me. They're not open today though.

CC if you have any of your old paperwork (I actually still have some of my orders from when I changed stations) many businesses will accept that. It's worth a shot or at least a call to see. Worst they can say is no right?
Speaking of veterans, happy Veterans Day to all that served and a belated happy birthday to any Marines out there. Thank you a million times for service and your sacrifices.

Some people just shrug and say, "can't hurt to try," so I don't generally get mad at people who try to talk me down on a price, but sometimes it's downright insulting.

I can haggle and I can also low-ball people depending on the situation. I got an almost new serger off craigslist for a very low price because I didn't need one and can just wait until the right one comes along. I low balled someone selling one, she responded back no way, I let it go as worth a shot. The next day she told me I could pick it up for that price provided I could get there before a certain time because she was moving to California the next day and didn't want to take it because she didn't use it. She had little to no bargaining chips and I was the only one who bit. Unfortunately for her she really wanted to get rid of it and I was the only one interested in it.

Yes, do make it a priority to go. Some places around here will give you the discount even without documentation (Home Depot). You may as well enroll in the VA if you qualify. You'd only have to be seen every 24 months to remain in the system. It annoys me that the VA isn't "open" on Veteran's Day. I think they should be exempt from this federal holiday in order to serve the Veterans on Veteran's Day. Some VA staff are quick to point out that they, too, are Veterans, and deserve the day off, so I guess I understand that, too.

Olive Garden is offering a free meal to active service and veterans today. 10% off to folks in their party.

We're hitting a lunch at a local burger joint, then OG for dinner.

Another problem with selling so low that you're giving things away, the recipient has no respect for what they got.

Kind of like information. If people have to pay for it, they respect it. If they don't, they won't.

The thing is, this guy probably didn't even know what he was offering on. If so, yeah, could have been, doesn't hurt to ask.
Would be sad to have someone with a nice pair of rare birds that wouldn't be in a yard for keeping the breed. Would have been a waste! Hopefully you get someone that knows the breed and wants to breed them.

Our top senior bus driver is also a senior and a veteran. He was just beaming about his schedule for today - he had all the freebies lined up, free breakfast, free lunch, free dinner, free car wash, free haircut, and I told him AMC had a free movie for vets but, he said he saw that already.

Oh the other hand I am ashamed of some places that pretend to offer veterans a reward - restaurant chains that will give just coffee or appetitizer IF the vet buys an
entrée .first.

Two or three restaurant chains - send me coupons now and then Buy one entrée - get one free. Why couldn't they offer veterans that for today? I'm sure, someone they know would be happy to pay for the first one. I sure would. They wouldn't be losing anything - they'd still be getting full price for one entrée.
