Breaking News from the Central Maine Guincident Command Centre:

An elite team of negotiators has been sent in to see if they can influence the standoff between guinea and ground.

They are armed with meal worms, cracked corn and black oil sunflower seeds. We have not yet heard what the guineas requests are.

We will continue to update with bulletins when warranted.

The situation remains guarded.

LOL try millet. White millet they go nutzo for. but they have to be contained initially to introduce it to them. White millet is the primary ingredient in Parakeet seed. But i have bought it at the feed store in 40 pound bags. for about eight bucks. chickens like it too.

Haha SCG, good luck in your negotiations.

Starting to look more and more like winter here, temps are up to a nice 10-15 F. And we got about 6 inches of snow today, making it a total of 8 now. In Merikarvia, up on the western coast, they broke the 24h all time record, 73cm or about 29 inches of snow. The Finnish Meteorology Institute does not have a weather monitoring station there, but due to the snowfall they sent someone there to measure it officially.

Inkeri is starting to look more and more like she's ready to give birth soon, might be another set of winter kits in there within a few days. I hope the temps stay in this slightly warmer range until they've grown a bit of fur, but once they're about three weeks it seems they can handle anything, at least the current lot had absolutely no problems with -25C (-15F) temps. Chickens are a bit more active again now that the air has warmed up a bit too. My compost was frozen though, we cleaned up the coop a bit and I added some household waste and 2 gallons of hot water with some sugar and yeast mixed into it. I hope the added bacteria and nitrogen gets it going soon, otherwise we'll be a bit screwed.

Why compost stress? Does it matter if it stops working for three months??
