Good idea to freeze it. I keep many items frozen: lamb replacer ( dried milk), bran, breads. WHy not starter. Just remember to bring it out on a DRY, not humid day; otherwise moisture collects on the bag.

Do you think the meds will keep their effectiveness if they are frozen? I know that they have a shelf life anyway, but would freezing extend the shelf life of the meds or would it lose it's potency because it was frozen? SCG?

You do realize there is no such thing in Alabama?

Quote: Haahaaa--sorry you are right. So make sure it is stored in water tight bags. Or throw a couple blankets over the bag to slow the thawing process? I'm reaching here!! LOL

THe cold bag will love the moisture to condense on it. Can't get it into the grain. Will spoil asap.

My grain guy pushes to keep grain only 2 weeks once it is milled; last summer I talked to a long time BUckeye breeder and he buys by the silo and uses it over several month.

Picture time! Curious pea baby and protective Mom giving her "I-ain't-playin" look.

Learning to eat!

Exploring outside the nest without Mom.

No sign of a crest, yet, but what beautiful eyes!

No color showing but it is just two days old, hoping for a white. If it's a male, he's mine! If it is a hen, the owner of the pair gets her and I get more eggs.

Sorry, internet died yesterday. I was going into DTs. BF went out at 8 PM to get us a new router. Or modem. I wasn't really listening. All that matters is I slept on it and it was fixed this morning! And I had some weird dreams about naked neck ducks. Is there such a thing?

As far as your question goes, freezing is generally really bad for medications. Many meds are destroyed by heat OR freezing. Generally the bathroom followed by the kitchen is the worst place to store meds. I store mine in my bedside nightstand drawer - away from light (both sun and light bulbs), the only room in the house that we have air conditioning, and generally not as humid as the bathroom or kitchen. Most meds have an "excursion" on the side, where the meds have been tested for stability - like store between 46 and 76 degrees F... usually storing at the lower end of that will reduce degradation.

Hope that makes sense. Put another way, I frequently take expired medications without a care (would never sell them to someone) but I have NEVER ONCE IN MY LIFE frozen a medication without it being part of the required storage for it (or by accident - our fridge freaked out one day at work and we had to throw out all the medication that froze).

Finally closing on my home loan today. It's about time that I got my ex husband off the mortgage

We have recently struck up a friendship with a new neighbor who is doing some work for us. When he came by today, he said he'd like to have Henry (the rooster I need to get rid of) and asked if I would try to find him some grown hens so he could start having eggs again. He is going to build a coop/pen right away. I don't know if I can find grown hens, but perhaps I could raise some chicks for him....
