The Old Folks Home

Cute bunnies. :) All of our babies grow fast. Chicks grow quick too.

Snow! We got our fair share the last few days! It's ok, we need it. I have my little paths to the coops. And the shed that has the feed in it.

Here is my little silkie laying. She just hunkered down when I went for my camera. Too funny how she lays there at first. Head up, straight on, just waiting patiently for things to start happening...and trying to stay warm.

Coop doors must be elevated... And open out.

House doors open in, to hide hinges.

You have shown us before your awesome Finish "I can open outward without exposing my hinges" doors... But niw I can't remember how they work.

I think I have the pics of the doors somewhere.

Yup, found them. Or hinges and locks, really.

Adjustable plate to fine tune the locked position, in case the seal is leaking, or door isn't closing on it's own etc. The steel is maybe 2/16 inches thick. Not that easy to drill. And you can't jimmy the lock open with a coat hanger.

The hinge is on the outside, but the fitting sits into the space between the frame and the door.

The protruding parts fit into each other, so even if you were to cut the hinges, you can't simply lift the door out. You could of course cut out the whole section of door to which the hinge is secured, but many doors have metal inside them to stop that. With this particular door that would be sort of unnecessary though, since it has a huge window in it.

And because the doors open outwards and aren't made of Saltines, the phrase "Police, we have a warrant" in a movie would be followed by "Ouch, my foot/shoulder". Also, the door sits about 6 inches above the ground on the outside, so it leaves a bit of a clearing for ice to build up without stopping the door.

My daughter is back on the road again. I took her to the airport at 4AM. This is the first trip on which she has taken a friend.
Her plane just got to Miami and she'll be boarding in an hour for her flight to Costa Rica. I begged her to squeeze me into her backpack.

Tonight they'll be staying in La Fortuna seeing the falls, Arenal volcano, hot springs, etc.. That's all they have planned so far - just winging it the rest of the way with a big wish list.
She's going for a month this time following her slogan. "Work, Save, Travel, Repeat."

Ron congratulations on the granddaughter. Yes it is hard to grandparent from afar, especially if the other set of grandparents get to see them daily because of where they live. I am planning a trip out to NY in July (DD is due the 4th) to see the grandkids.
Cynthia is right, we got snow yesterday. We got a LOT of snow yesterday. It probably only snowed about a foot but the way it drifted around our house we had areas where there was four feet of new snow. Couldn't even get the plow out because it was so deep. Yay Utah. Today my back is killing me. I'm getting too old for this crap.
