The Old Folks Home

I'd like to make an observation here, @Lsky , you really are a rather remarkable young lady (from all that's apparent). You say you are still a teen (I accept what you write as the truth), but seem to have the intelligence and manner of a much older/experienced/mature young woman. You say your location is somewhere on the coast of Europe... I'd be interested to know what coast as your use of English (in writing even, which is more difficult than speech) is awesome. You also have readily apparent artistic skills that you should not needlessly downplay or disregard. Few your age can/could draw like that. Bruce is right, you COULD be doing greeting card artwork (or more) if you choose to. They'd look better than a lot of what is actually offered/available in that market now. I don't "know" you, but from the little I know "from" you, I'd be proud to call you my daughter. I'm sure, though he doesn't show it, that your real dad, once he gets to know you, would feel the same way, but doesn't know how to show it. Remember, you said that he lost his dad while very young, so probably had no real role model to teach him how to be a dad... I gotta say, it is NOT instinctual! Being a good dad is a LEARNED ability. You either learn it through having a bad dad and not wanting to be like that, or from having a great dad you want to emulate, or some combination of the 2... nobody is perfect after all.

Thanks for the applause, Latestarter. You are so sweet to say such things. I can't imagine why some woman hasn't scooped you up. It must be because you are a loner and very selective in your choice of the type of woman you will associate with. I don't blame you, as smart and hardworking as you are, (not to mention, easy on the eyes) you can afford to be selective. Your favorite oldest daughter (Ha Ha, I see what you did there) is lucky that her mother did one thing right, she picked you!

Blushing... Thank you... I have become a loner for the sole purpose of self preservation... After 2 wives (and two long term live ins), there won't be another. I thought I WAS selective

I've come to know that I'm not that smart (and continue to know less and less as I age), and have become incredibly lazy since I stopped working (for a living). The wheels haven't ground to a complete stop yet, but retirement has allowed me to slow substantially.

Don't y'all just love SCG? She is truly a special person.........wait.....no, what is the term she used.............perfectly lovely. Yes, she is perfectly lovely.

SCG is awesome (and I don't have the gift yet, and would say it regardless) why can't she be special AND perfectly lovely? I would say she is.

This was not a guincident - this was "GUINSANITY!" Yeah, they are not fond of being touched.......or caught..... or held...... or sprayed......or looked at.........

You know, for all the draw backs to guinea ownership, why do people put themselves through it? They don't lay golden eggs, do they? I mean, what is the "up side"?

Wow thank you, that really does mean alot. English is my first language though, so I would hope my writing is atleast half decent  I just didn't want to give away my specific location, and my relatives were/are from all over Europe so I just feel more European than anything else :idunno maybe I'm just weird lol. If I could make greeting cards and sell them in a local shop or online then I would love to. I was thinking of entering a local art contest as they're often advertised in the local paper, usually with cash prizes ;)
Maybe I come across as mature, if I do that's great haha but I know I am still very immature in a lot of ways. I get snappy and moody pretty often, and then I'll just lie in bed and won't even get up to eat. So I still have a lot of growing up to do.. :/ And yes I am a teen, but I don't think I'm alowed to share my exact age.

I was thinking aswell that if I ever had kids It would be nice for them to have their grandad around. I do think I have been too hard on him.. now I feel guilty :/

try a california roll. its cooked crab avocado and cucumber inside of rice and seaweed outside.... one of my favorite rolls. Nothing raw in it.

then another that I love roll wise is a Volcano roll.

Salmon skin fried with tempura on the outside rolled inside out thats seaweed inside and rice outside.... then sliced into bitesized pieces.... Then topped with cooked lobster mixed with a spicy mayo.... then top that with scallions and sesame seeds and eel sauce. Eel sauce is just a sweet soy based syrrup goes with a lot of things.... Its sauce for eel not sauce made from eel.

I dont do rolls often. My go to for sushi is mostly
Nigeri style which is on top of rice
Gunkinmaki which has a wall of seaweed around the rice and fish to keep the fish from falling off
Hand roll which looks like an icecream cone filled with rice and fish

Yellow tail Nigeri
Mackrel Nigeri Macrel is pickled

Sea urchen gunkinmaki
Salmon eggs gunkinmaki
Smelt Eggs gunkinmaki
Flying Fish eggs gunkinmaki

Eel I get in a hand roll.

I rarely eat tuna or other fishes because I simply dont care for them. I have had shrimp Eel snapper clam Octopus and oyster.

I like oyster shooters but not sushi.

Sea Urchen is an acquired taste. and somewhat seasonal. it has an odd texture but it tastes like the ocean smells....

One roll I cant get enough of is a California roll with Mango and Cilantro inside.... He wont make it unless the Mango is perfectly ripe....

Then there is the Mexican influence.... Jalepenios stuffed with cream cheese and spicy tuna then fried in tempura.....

Just getting on here..Man, if they made anything like you just described like the first two..I would eat that..the last one? I take it that's hot! I can't do even warm things on my throat anymore. Makes me sad, I used to love spice and hot. Since my neck/spine surgery, I don't do that too well anymore. They go through the front to do the surgery, so move a lot aside. Not sure what they did to make my throat so sensitive. ??

Yah chin hairs

with age come chin hairs, and other great (?) surprises from nature. ENJOY your youth. BTW I will be 69 next month. So you don't have to worry about chin hairs for a long time. Do use sun block religiously and polarized sun glasses AND wide brimmed sun hats. Most cases of skin cancer trace back to early, fun years kids, teens, early adulthood and a few bad sunburns. YOU can prevent damage. Wish I had known back in the my youth - but, no one really knew about the sun's effects then. Most of use just used baby oil and OY, the painful burns.

Ok, catching up....man, you guys have me cracking up...but chin hairs? Hey, I've not noticed any of those yet..and I AM getting older. Someone said 59 was old...no, it isn't. I would take what ...feeling like 59... feels like again. Yep.

Chin hairs? I can't get those. Just can't.

Skin cancer..yes..take care of your skin in the sun! My DH just went through having some taken off of the side of his face. Didn't get it all the first time, had to go back and have more taken off. Sun damage is real!

SCG..you always seem to have some beautiful quilt going on. I used to quilt..the easy way. Now, my wrists and my fingers just say no. Just had a bad episode of my left wrist swelling for no good reason. Well, I'm sure there was a reason. But, doc couldn't figure it out, even after blood work...did have a positive ANA come back..but, wrist is better after having a nice dose of those wonderful druggies called Steroids. I'm thinking I would actually prefer the chin hair over bad wrists and knuckle joints. Man that hurt. Half a cast on too. All of the Arthiritis and Lupus, CBC came back ok..so. Will have to watch and make sure I'm not doing something too..ahem, repetitive..like typing. I haven't been coming on as much, resting my tired old wrists.
Have a daughter that now loves quilting and crocheting. I let her make me beautiful blankeys. :)

Hi ya ron..how's life treaten ya?

Hi Cynthia!

It is great to have you back posting here.

When did you have the neck\spinal surgery? I had spinal stenosis surgery for my lower back about 8 years ago. I hope I do not have to go through that again!

Just tell the sushi chef no raw anything and he will make recommendations for you. Same goes for spicy. I dont do spice any more either... An eensy bit is ok I can handle horseradish and wasabi.... but anything that has oils in it gives me fits. Unless I can have a counter agent like Rice or milk or something starchy like bread.

So if the roll says spicy ask if they can do it without the spice.

Well I say old, just over a year ago "old" though. Thank you

I don't have a pc of my own, had to borrow my mothers to scan my drawings and she only gave me ten minutes. He doesn't use Skype, he's not very interested in technology. Plus I think it would be weird. I will just see how the drawing goes for now, (Need to work out what to do now

) and then I'll take it from there. I'm very very nervous about it so having a big conversation with him would probably give me a heart attack anyway
lol.png

Oh I wasn't suggesting a big long Skype conversation NOW, just that it could be something in the future since apparently you live far enough away that getting to see him would be difficult even if you had a great relationship already. No, don't push for face to face right off. He might surprise you and be more technology savvy than you know though. After all, you've not had much contact. And if not, learning to use Skype isn't all that hard. Do they have computers you can use at the library? That is pretty common here. They might not have scanners and maybe not cameras for Skype, I don't know.

Yes DO enter those art contests. I have no idea what your competition will put up but like Joe said, you've got way more going on in the 2 pictures I've seen than you likely find most greeting cards on the racks. It would be great if you won some spending money but even if not, I think you would find the entries well accepted. Goes a long way toward self-esteem when you aren't really sure of yourself. Few people are a very good judge of their own work. Some are too critical, some think they have more talent than others would agree with. I'm thinking you are more like the former.

No, we don't need to know your street address, city or exact age
wink.png
A lot of people put in a general location primarily so if there is a question that might be climate related, it can be answered without having to first ask where a person lives. Or predators. No sense telling someone in Australia they need to worry about raccoons getting into their coop or run. But it is nice to have a little information just to make the screen name into a person. I will just ASSUME that you live somewhere on the coast of England and are something between 13 and 19. Close enough

The closest library here is three hours away by car ._. It's okay, I'm a long way off skyping him anyway lol

I will look into the contests some more, money is always nice to have ;)

And yes I know my location is very vague  But if I ask a question I'm always sure to mention the climate and what predators there are etc..

I will let you assume that. I am neither confirming nor denying it
