The Old Folks Home

Cynthia, here are some more pictures from our tour around Moab last weekend. You might recognize the places?

Good luck, SCG! And happy hunting!

It's unfortunately pouring today and we're under a flood watch. According to the weather, it'll be raining until next Thursday. I can't make this stuff up. Since it's pouring I really can't let the goats out to roam and eat wet stuff meaning I can't set the smoke bomb off and I'm not sure rats come out in the rain to drink the poison water.

ARGH! I think the smart, conniving rats are even working with mother nature against me.

How is your hen with the injured wing doing?
Hi, Ron, thanks for asking!

The patient is a female duck and she is doing fine, so far! I have her in a hospital pen and I think she is very happy there. She has her own pool and a covered shelter, and is becoming quite tame. I bring her into the garage every night to sleep in a rubbermaid tub so that she is safe from night time predators. The wing's condition has not changed, much. It is still black in places but does not seem to smell as strongly (but still smells.) I am just waiting to see what happens, but since there is little "raw" area to that wing, I could probably put her back with her chicken buddies. She makes such a mess with the waterer in there, though, it is actually easier to have her in the tractor with her pool.

I have muscovies hatching under broody hens in a couple of weeks and I have to get a permanant duck pen built soon!

I had a Bresse Pullet get all pecked up on the wing. I could see some bone and there were some black spots. It smelled odd when the Vetricyn was sprayed on it but the black fell off and pretty pink scarring was there.

Vetrycin kills 99.9% of everything as opposed to anti biotics that just kills bacteria. The smell you need to worry about is a sweet smell-Gangreen.
