The Old Folks Home

Credit cards..I use the metal case holders. Going to remember that trick on those plastic key punches. Hold hand over most of the keys. Smart.

Both times, the cards were immediately cancelled and replaced... That's why I was saying... won't have the replacement till the end of the week. Thanks for the sleeve link Chicka. Once the card is in the sleeve, will both fit into a typical wallet card slot? Thermal imaging Iphones... jeeze.. OK... Thanks for sharing that video. Man I feel so like I'm in the dark ages... I used to be pretty tech savy... Just having the pin does them no good without the card data... Gonna have to give this some thought. I don't use my CC as a debit card, so never enter a PIN... They are skimming the chip data some how. Just don't know where/when it's happening.

It is possible that there was a data breach at a place that you shop, like happened with Target a couple of years ago.

Like was posted, self pay gas pumps are a big source of card skimming. I get my gas from Costco and they have a special tape on it and an attendant that watches the pumps like a hawk. Stay away from the little stations and stick with the main ones. Also, look for the reader--they will often look odd.

I think the problem is that there are MANY ways to steal your info now.

My parents that live in big overpopulated Texas had to swap out their card I think three times just this last year.

Your welcome. The cards in the sleeves do fit in our wallets slots with out a problem. I am not sure how they get the rest of the card data to use it, but they do.

Well, the only thing it can be is a skimmer someplace... None of my other cards have been compromised, and they are all in the same wallet, so it's not someone walking by me with an RFID scanner. I never use this card as a debit card, so never enter a pin #, so it's not one of the Iphone IR scanners, that read the heat imprints off the keypad. Some place that I used the card where it was swiped through a machine either has a person skimming it (restaurant) or has a skimmer hidden near the swipe machine (gas pump etc).

Oh shoot, I just realized this is the third time... several months ago I got notified about a charge on a card that I've never used, has never been in my wallet, and has never left the envelope in my house. I have no idea how anyone could have gotten that one... lucky guess perhaps. The past 2 times have been on the same CU card, that I basically live my life on (different acc #s). Another thought I just had is this never happened to me before when I DIDN'T have the RFID chip on the card... Back when there was no chip, I never had this issue of stolen info...

As an aside... "overpopulated TX" Really? Only in a couple of big city areas, of course the #1 being the metroplex... According to US Census as of 7/2015, TX ranks #26 in pop density/Sq mile @ 102.5 people per. and ranks 2nd by land area with 261,232 square miles of land behind your present residence; Alaska, with over twice as many square miles of land and a population density of 1.3 people per square mile.

I just went to try to see where Dallas/Ft Worth fell on the city pop density scale... there's one small incorporated place; Mobile City, Dallas (population 196 and .02 square miles!!) that made the list @ #74... other than that, no TX city made the list of top 100...

OK. nuff on the subject of thieves and credit cards... too depressing

NEVER use my debit/credit card at brick and mortar and am extremely careful where I use online, using only Paypal whenever possible and Dashlane for my passwords, never saving credit info on any sites (always purchasing as "guest") yet I have had mine grabbed twice! Coincidentally both times it was used it was caught and blocked almost immediately by the independent security company that my credit union uses. The incidents were over a year apart, card cancelled/changed within hours yet both times my card was used by some hack in England putting charges thru the exact same company (a British version of our check cashing/debit card companies) for online expenditures for gaming and I think they said "snapchat"? Both attacks happened on a weekend after normal banking hours (here) but my CU had great automated security software in place and then added the independent security firm before the second.

After the first attack, I had to take in a signed form to get my money returned to my account (which was within a couple days) and I tried to tell the manager I was talking with how careful I was but she just kept saying "you didn't do anything wrong" "It wasn't your fault". She finally gave me a look that said "we know what happened but I can't tell you". This time everybody moved quickly and never questioned my practices. It's still frustrating.

BTW - I have always carried my cards in a very pretty, but RFID protection lined wallet.I am a former computer professional as well as management level casino security. Just goes to prove that these days, in this new electronic world, no matter who you are, you're vulnerable.

I read an article today that people are playing some pokemon game "hunting" virtual creatures in places like the Holocaust Museum. Where do these people come from?!?

I have been seeing them since Monday on Campus(UC Davis). They do not pay attention to anything but the phone. Apparently you aim the phone where GPS says to and the little monster appears on the screen. You then have to "battle" it and if you win, it becomes yours.

It is crazy!
I know right? One of my grand-daughters posted a video on FB that showed someone hunting one and caused a three car pile up that killed a kid on a bike! What is wrong with our world today?
There have been rapes, murders, theft and accidents with the game. Gamers are being lured and then stalked. Those playing it need to be very careful!
