The Old Folks Home

Leona's says:
She died in Jesus and is blest,
How sweet her slumbers are,
From suffering She is now released,
And freed from every care.

On the bottom of the stone is a neat marker for the cutter (we think, we're researching):

Because we clean from the bottom to the top we originally thought she might be Jewish. After uncovering the epitaph, we decided not. There is a nearby town called Temple, Maine.

The child's stone that we reset today has a very sad epitaph:

This one we unearthed and were kinda shocked about:

Oh that is sad!

I see the last one says, "Both killed by one strike of lightening." I cant see the dates to know if that's literal or a metaphor. I'm assuming literal ... A lovers embrace under a tree, maybe?

It's actual cause of death and it is a father/son combo. There's lot of description on the older stones. There's 2 in this cemetery that were killed by "the cars" (trains). One in NH, one in Mass.

OH! That's not romantic at all. Maybe they were sawing down a tree with a double handled saw. (Yes, I've got an overactive imagination.) Thats funny about "the cars."

SCG awesome! Just awesome!

I went to the fair and had fun...... But then went on a ride with my youngest when he asked so nicely and ardently...and almost lost the spicy reindeer sausage sandwich, fry bread, and funnel cake that I had already eaten. It truly took almost an hour before I recovered. Wow was that close!

Again, SCG, so winderful all of that work, all of that info, and how greatly improved it all is! If I could only import you!

Abigail is the last in my line to carry the surname Joy, she married Reuben Wheeler Heywood.

According to lore, there was a Heywood on the bridge in Concord, MA.

Somewhere in there, I think the Heywood side, was a Mayflower voyager.

No Haywood or Joy in my family, but I do have Blood (my fave), also:

Ainsworth
Allys
Barrat
Bassett
Belgrave
Brigham
Brooke
Brown
Buckminster
Chapin
Holbrook

Well....lots more  I love ancestry.
