The Old Folks Home

I have a 5 gallon bucket full of Asian pears that DH and I picked yesterday just waiting for us to get up in the morning and get them canned. I asked DH if he would help me peel them and he said yes!

They weren't as large this year as last but there are more of them in spite of us fighting fire blight all summer. I'm probably going to have to top most of the trees and treat them with copper to get it under control once and for all.

Way back when I had horses, my parent had a bartlett pear tree in their yard. All mom had to do if I had my horse out on a lead was hold up a pear and whistle. That silly horse would drag me across the yard at a trot to get to that tree and those pears. I can still see her blissfully chewing on pears until the juice was squirting out of her mouth and hanging from her chin like a beard.

sounds like mama had a cruel streak.

Certainly not me. My neighbor across the field used to walk his hefty dog and I couldn't resist calling the dog, so it dragged him fast over to my side. It brought out the bully in me. But neighbor and I are both very short and this was my only chance to bully someone. Okay I stopped doing it. Mainly because the dog passed away.
