The Old Folks Home

Ok, sharing this..so excited! I know you all have had an egg color you've gotten excited over...right? Well of course.

I almost sold this EE of mine. She has taken her sweet time to lay. Glad I didn't! She is an OE! I love Olive colored eggs. This one is dark, but love there are no speckles. Hoping it stays that way, and, if it turns a bit lighter in time, I won't mind a bit. Nice size too for a first egg. Whoot.

This is the girl. Quite pretty hen.

Congratulations Cynthia that's wonderful I love the color. And yes she is a very pretty hen.

The sound I can live with, aeration or dryers. The cost of it...not my favorite surprise...lol. (Ouch expensive) It sounds like the land in your area is very similar to ours. Here a quarter beside our land sold for 170000. Our quarters have about 110-130 acres of workable land, normally. Right now being so wet we're only getting maybe 90 acres off, if that. The land around us is about the 200000 mark...but it's land that's been cleared and sometimes drained.

weevils! I'm sure they'd boost some hungry animals protein. Ick. That's a great idea...getting the grain right from the source. It blows my mind the difference on what we get as opposed how much grain/feed goes for. I just about fainted when I went to buy budgie food and it's $6 for a little bag of mainly light prosso millet. Here, if I remember correctly we sell red prosso millet for $.14/ lb. I managed to commandeer about 800 bushels of our millet (that was left over from the semis hauling) for the chickens. So I also use it for the budgies and supplement them with some of the store bought "expensive food" We also had 200 bu of wheat with lots of various other plant seeds kept for the chickens. It's hardly worth hauling a small amount of grain. Closest elevator is over an hour away IF it's taking grain.
Our cousins had been cleaning sunflower seeds and we needed the cleaner so hubby dumped the bit left for the chickens.

Please let us know how his birds liked the weevils. I like to hear how that went.

Ya TSC has had so many returns on feed and pine shavings that now they have a covered plastic room outside where they unload their trucks. They use it as a holding room now and we still have to get someone to hunt down our feed because they hardly ever get it into the store.

When we buy the corn here we open the bag and set it into a barrel and usually don't have a problem with it. But this last bag smelled bad and we have not got rid of it yet. We don't want any animals eating it to get sick or die.

Ya know we buy from the Del's in Morton it was bought out by tsc but the lease on their
building doesn't expire for another year so they do not know that tsc will keep their
store open over the chehalis one we do not shop at the chehalis store and do not like them
we know the folks at Morton and they know us one time I was sold medicated feed
I took it back next morning new guy thought I should be feeding it no more new guy

Gorgeous - both the hen and egg. I have one EE that lays a dark green egg with speckled brown spots. I love these critters.

I lost a NN hen this week. That brings me down to 1 regular NN (my first ever turken, she's about 6.5 years old) and 1 showgirl.

So sorry to hear this. :( I just hatched a couple, and got more because they were both black, and not sure of the sex. I need a girl, of course. I love the NN's. Will see what I get with these eggs. The P.O. was really hard on that box. Can't remember if I shared photos. Unreal! Had to rinse a few off..they are in a different bator just in case..I can see that most of the ones I rinsed are developing, but, they may still develop blood rings. :/
The ones that didn't break, or get goo on them from the broken ones, I put in a separate bator. I am hoping for some cute NN's. I want a white really bad.

Oh man, some of you have had some real...yucky...problems with feed! I go to our big Mill in town. They are constantly milling it, it is quite fresh, never had a problem. Thank goodness. Sorry you guys are having problems. Hopefully you find out a better place to buy!

And yes, how is Deb, wondering especially after that fall!
