Don't you just hate it when those childhood items wander off?

SCG makes beautiful quilts, I have to guess the table runners are just as gorgeous.

Now we know why it is 20 Mule Team Borax!!!! Great videos (as usual) Deb.

I was wondering how many of those wagons a team would have pulled to be 70,000

pounds. Turns out borax is pretty darned heavy:
"1730 kilogram per cubic meter"

Nearly 4,000 pounds in a cube 39" on each side. If they could fit the equivalent of 8 cubes in a wagon they would only need the two!

They were limited to Wooden axels and Leather Bearings lubricated by Grease. With forged iron wheel rims over Wood and Wooden spokes. There were two wagons and one Water tanker. Remember the summer temps average around 120 degrees in Death Valley

Wagon construction was pretty remarkable for sure. hand fitted joints Steam bent wheels... The Steel Rims were pressed on Hot so that when the steel cooled it would shrink around the wood making it solid....

the following is running gear for a much lighter wagon Pre 1870 Notice that this is a fifth wheel configuration. they all are pretty much the same even now a days. No matter the scale...

Those rear wheels could easily be six feet in diameter... and yep there wasnt a very small turning radius.

since I am digging I revisited one of my favorite sites. My Hickory Road cart has 52 inch diameter wheels with Rubber. Here in this dry climate the spokes have shrunk loosening the fellows. They wont bear weight this way or travel because side to side loading can cause them to break.

Here Is where I could send them to have them fixed.

Look down the page and you will see the picture below. Its a reconstruction of old logging wheels for moving MONSTER trees. the wheels below are ten feet in diameter

I seem to remember an old, old tv show called "Death Valley Days," with Ronald Regan and he always mentioned the 20 mule team for Borax, the sponsor. If you sent in so many proofs or something and maybe some money you could get the model team .

Loved those old shows so much loved the videos Deb posted 20 mule teams
Dad would hook my prize bull even at time get him and his tractor out of the mire
