The Old Folks Home

The maple trees out here are already armed with the first of their crummy messes. Do you think if it's too cold they will freeze and the trees won't have anything to clog my gutters with.

No major plans...calving wrecks all plans...lol. I "would" like to get all the birds dusted. I think that's my goal.
Everything off the birds will die a horrible frozen death. It got down to -29C (-20F) Thursday night. It's warmed up to -21C (-6F) Much nicer now.
I got all my roosters' legs done the other night with one can of (cheap version) Pam. Amazing! Only took about an hour or so.
Hopefully it works for the few with leg mites. Nasty boogers! (The leg mites...not the roosters)

I'd like to go to the movie tonight because it's a franchise that doesn't seem to make it to Netflix and I saw the first one, 50 shades. This one looks like it involves a previous girlfriend who's been slighted. Interesting.

Went to the movie last weekend "John Wicks," the second movie. OMG, best movie I've seen in a long, long time!

My back did ok. I miss going to the movies. I want to watch the original John Wicks on Netflix to catch up. Third one should be incredible by how it ended.

What's your plans SCG?

either four by six or four by eight pallets to put stall mats on then use em for stacking hay and the floor of my hay room/area

My space is eight by twenty four.... No matter what I do the stall mats are four by six... it will take eight of them.

my issue is I am afraid of falling and regular pallets are made of crap wood. Yeah they can handle the weight but If I stand on a single board they pop and crack then there is the space between the boards.

Once the floor is assembled with stall mats on top then I will do rails of four by fours to stack the hay on to keep it dry.... NOW I can Flipping sweep instead of having to get on hands and knees to clean out the hay inside the pallets.

Trying to stay warm here. It's only 27 outside right now and we had a dusting of snow overnight. More on the way tomorrow with the low somewhere around 17 tonight. At least it's getting it out of its system early, hopefully before all the fruit trees and plants are in full bloom. Nah, that's just wishful thinking.

I seem to be flitting from one project to another. At the moment, I'm hand quilting a runner that is sitting here staring at me but I have also taken up doing woven willow trellises and now I have a little Tee Pee cat bed I'm weaving out of thornless blackberry cane that I'm harvesting from my arbor. I can see potential out of them being used for nesting boxes for chickens. I'll try to get a picture today of what I have done with it so far.

We definitely need a picture, I need to see the runner and the weaving, for sure. I flit from one project to another. I get bored pretty easily, give up, go to something different, get bored, move on. I usually have a number of projects going on. I think that's normal.

I did the Pam on my let mites a few years back, but the nozzle kept clogging because it was so cold. The last thing I saw in theatres was the new Star Wars... pretty sure that was at least a year ago. Been watching reruns of The Golden Girls while I sew.

BF is working this weekend, so it's quiet here. Was hoping to sleep in but I didn't do so well at that. Been quilting the horse quilt (I'm bored beyond belief with it but will persevere cause I want it done and out of here) and I'm about 1/3 quilted, maybe 1/4. I have another block to do for the weekly block "challenge" online, which I'm hoping to get to, today. It's a block a week for 9 weeks. The blocks are pretty easy. I have been teaching a friend over the internet how to quilt using this "challenge." She didn't need my help this week to cut or assemble the block.

What's everyone up to this weekend
I'm inside for some lunch and then back out to pick up the rest of small branches and sticks that have blow off our front trees (18 shag bark hickory trees on about an acre) over the winter. It's cold, 25 F, but the sun is shining and the wind is less than 10 mph so a good day for clearing the mess. As diva said, the forecast for those of us in northern Illinois is for cold and possible snow over the next week

I am still holding out hope for Spring by the end of the month

Given how I'm feeling now and plans for this afternoon, this evening will most likely be spent in the recliner, with a heating pad, maybe a glass of wine and my book club book, My Brilliant Friend, by Elena Ferrante.

Tomorrow,Sunday: animal chores, breakfast out with DH and DS, church, Blackhawks hockey, any prep needed for possible snow, animal chores and more reading.

@microchick YES, pictures of the tent weaving!

@drumstick diva NO, there is no chance the maples will not clog your gutters!

@perchie.girl I love my stall mats...make things easier to clean. Are you worried about the gap under the pallets being a home for undesirables?

@maddysmamaw The girls look like they're ready to sell! I have 10 9 boxes of GS cookies I purchased from our DGD. Got them last week and have a plan to use one box a week.....we'll see how that works

Okay, my lunch break is over.....back to pick-up-sticks....I hope everyone has a great weekend!

She's selling cookies for her Daisy troop and candy bars for school so I'm pretty much screwed. She has raisinets!!! Who can resist chocolate covered anything?

Cookie time has been going on for a couple of months. Now they are just doing booths. Maddy and her troop are coming out like bandits! So proud of them! Not selling on here. But on my website there is a link to Mad's website.

Edited because autocorrect is not smarter than me, dangit!
