The Old Folks Home

Before Maddy was born we rescued Great Danes. People would buy them not realizing how big and how needy they are. The ones we ended up with were emotional wrecks that had been abandoned or left chained up outside their whole lives. For all their size these are not outside dogs and they crave human companionship. Now we have Razz the spaz, a catahoula that we ended up with because Greg's niece got him as a puppy and then couldn't handle him. He went to Greg's parents, but after his father had a heart transplant they were unable to care for him so we flew to Houston to pick him up. This is the hardest dog I've ever tried to train. No manners whatsoever. He is a lovey thing, though.

Quote: I have a '97 Eclipse that will take off in 3rd without too much trouble... Not bad for a 4 cylinder. Also, I broke my collar bone and had a hard time moving my left arm, so driving a standard was interesting since I couldn't easily hold the wheel with my left hand while shifting... so I would start in 2nd, goose it, shift to 4th, and leave it there unless I was on a highway going over 60... poor thing had to deal with that abuse for a little over a month before I could use my left arm enough to drive properly again... Also, I was on the phone one day and my dad was shifting for me so I didn't have to juggle shifter, phone, and wheel... he shifted the poor thing straight from 2nd to 5th while going up a steep hill... it lugged but it was still out pulling the other cars on the road....

My 2010 Subaru isn't too much of a slouch either. It's not quite as gutsy feeling as the eclipse, but then again, it's all wheel drive and heavier, so it feels a little more sluggish, but it hasn't had too much trouble the few times I've accidentally taken off in 3rd with it.

They call that "advanced" shifting! Many only go up and down in order, first, second, third...5ifth, 4th,.....

Back when I was growing up, a lot of the big trucks had a granny gear for first. That gear was not to be used unless you needed a lot of torque to start up with a heavy load. Normally you started in second.

18 speed has 3 granny gears and you usually start out in 4th lol I just love the Facebook questions of a shifter if you can drive this I say noo not enough stirring for me lol

There is a Catahoula breeder here... Do you think if one were to start with a pup circumstances would be better? I have had dogs since I was about five years old. I know puppy training "the good kind" and some obedience. but my experience has only been with a few breeds. Boston Terrier, Poodle, Dachshund, Australian Shepherd and Greyhound. The Greyhound was three years old when I got him... track training had him potty trained but that was about it. My last Aussie was an adult but she was potty trained already.

The one I was thinking about was a small(1ton) dump truck. It had a 4speed transmission and a 383 V8 in it. It was a Dodge. My Middle brother and I would drive it to school sometimes when we were going to do some work in the afternoon.

It was a fun thing to drive! The engine really wound up nicely...especially in the granny gear....
